BOSTON – For the third time in the last five years, UMBC captured at least a share of the regular season title. The Retrievers also secured the No. 1 Seed to earning hosting duties for the 2025 America East Volleyball Championship, which begins with semifinal action on Friday, Nov. 21.
Top seed UMBC will face off against No. 4 Seed Binghamton in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. while No. 2 Bryant will battle No. 3 UAlbany in the other semifinal at 8 p.m. The semifinal winners will play for the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth on Saturday at 4 p.m. All matches of the 2025 #AEVB Championship will be air on ESPN+ domestically and AmericaEast.TV internationally.
UMBC is the No. 1 seed for the third time in the last five seasons and won four of the past five tournament championships, including its last two under head coach Kasey Crider. The Retrievers went 7-3 conference play this year, along with Bryant, but earned the No. 2 Seed due to its 2-0 record against the Bulldogs. Bryant secured the No. 2 Seed with its 7-3 record and earned a share of its first-ever regular season title.
UAlbany went 6-4 in conference action to secure the No. 3 Seed after reaching the championship game as the No. 4 Seed last season. Binghamton also went 6-4 in conference play this year but lost the tiebreak. The two teams went 1-1 against each other head-to-head but the Great Danes won four sets in those two matches while the Bearcats only won three. Binghamton is making its fourth straight appearance in the championship, the second longest streak in the field.
