#AEVB Week 8: UAlbany, Bryant, and Binghamton Post Unbeaten Week

BOSTON – UAlbany, Bryant, and Binghamton all had unbeaten weeks, and the those three teams along with UMBC make up the top four spots in the current volleyballs standings.

Need to Know
  • UAlbany took down Colgate and UMBC this week, winning both matchups 3-1. The Great Danes continued its strong stretch of conference play with a win over UMBC on Saturday. Kendall Harris led the way with 11 kills on .458 hitting in the win.
  • Bryant moved to 4-1 in conference play as they took down NJIT on Friday. The Bulldogs have remained at the top of the conference and continued their dominance with a 3-0 sweep of the Highlanders.
  • The Highlanders started the week with their first home win of the season against New Haven. NJIT secured the 3-1 win with a .242 team hitting percentage, totaling 57 kills.
  • In a thrilling five-set victory Binghamton secured a huge comeback win over New Hampshire on Friday. Powered by their defense, the Bearcats managed to capture the final two sets in the win. Binghamton moved into third place as conference play hits the halfway mark.
  • Four conference matchups take place this weekend as teams make the push for playoffs. UAlbany hosts New Hampshire on Friday, while NJIT travels to New Hampshire, Binghamton takes on UMBC, and UAlbany faces top seed Bryant on Sunday.

Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 21
Player of the Week
Shynelle Woroniuk, UAlbany – Gr., Outside Hitter, Red Deer, Alberta, Canada
  • Helped lead UAlbany to a 2-0 week with 36 total kills, 26 digs, and chipped in two service aces.
  • Led the league with 4.50 kills per set and also added 3.25 digs per set on the week.
  • This is Woroniuk’s second #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Setter of the Week
Maria Olga Siapani, UAlbany – So., Setter, Limassol, Cyprus
  • Recorded 46 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Colgate.
  • Totaled 82 assists and 23 digs with nine kills over eight sets during a 2-0 week.
  • This is Siapani’s fourth #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Cronkhite, Binghamton – Sr., Libero, Metamora, Illinois
  • Led all players with 25 digs, six assists and two service aces in a five-set victory against New Hampshire.
  • Cronkhite averaged 5.00 digs per set and 1.20 assists in the win.
  • This is Cronkhite’s first #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season.

Rookie of the Week
Lucy Chertock, New Hampshire – Fr., Outside Hitter, Danville, Calif.
  • Chertock totaled 16 kills on .200 attacking percentage, 17 digs, and two blocks against Binghamton.
  • Averaged 3.40 digs per set and 3.20 kills per set while securing her fourth double-double of the season.
  • This is Chertock’s fourth #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
