BOSTON – League play began last week which saw Bryant, New Hampshire, UMBC, and UAlbany posting conference wins.
Need to Know
- UMBC and UAlbany kicked off conference play with wins on Friday as the Retrievers beat NJIT, 3-1, and the Great Danes knocked off Binghamton, 3-0.
- Bryant and New Hampshire followed suit with wins on Sunday. The Bulldogs took down UAlbany in four sets while New Hampshire swept NJIT, 3-0.
- The Bulldogs took down New Haven earlier in the week with a 3-0 win on Tuesday.
- Action continues with midweek battle between the top two teams in the league, with Bryant traveling to New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. match.
- The #AEVB preseason poll and All-Conference teams were announced on August 7 - link.
Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 30
Player of the Week
Meredith Hohnbaum, New Hampshire – Sr., Right Side Hitter, Indianapolis, Ind.
- Record 12 kills on 17 attempts without a single error.
- Hit an impressive .706 while adding two blocks and three digs.
- This is Hohnbaum’s first #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career.
Setter of the Week
Izzy Ostvig, UMBC – So., Setter, Fredericksburg, Va.
- Earned her 2nd straight triple-double, and program record third overall, in the win at NJIT.
- Tallied 33 assists, 10 digs and 11 kills on .375 hitting, while adding three blocks and three aces.
- This is Ostvig’s first #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of the season.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Hannah Howard, UMBC – Jr., Libero, Inwood, West Va.
- Had 22 digs and five assists in the win at NJIT. Averaged 5.50 digs per set in the match.
- Anchored the defense that held NJIT to just .141 hitting and only one ace.
- This is Howard’s second #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Lucy Chertock, New Hampshire – Fr., Outside Hitter, Danville, Calif.
- Chertock tallied 11 digs, 11 kills, and three total blocks, contributing significantly on both sides of the ball
- Added a service ace and helped the Wildcats hold NJIT to a .145 hitting percentage.
- This is Chertock’s second #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
