BOSTON – The second week of conference play brought plenty of heartache and grit to the floor as no team escaped league play unscathed and four teams are tied at the top of the #AEVB standings with 2-1 records.
Need to Know
- Bryant started the week with a 3-0 sweep of defending #AEVB Champion, New Hampshire. The Bulldogs had won six of their last seven contests heading into the weekend.
- UMBC proved their toughness on the court as they reversed swept Bryant in a stunning victory on Sunday. The Retrievers were down 2-0 when they rallied for the five-set comeback win at home.
- Binghamton had a successful weekend of conference play as the team took down UMBC and NJIT. The Bearcats now sit at 2-1 in the conference play and look to continue the win streak against Bryant on Sunday.
- Despite a tough loss on Wednesday, New Hampshire returned home against UAlbany on Friday. In a thrilling five-set match ups the Wildcats managed to take the fifth set 15-11 against the Great Danes and improve to 2-1 in league play.
- Action continues with three conferences games this weekend. NJIT travels to UAlbany, Bryant hosts Binghamton, and New Hampshire looks to defend home court against UMBC.

Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 7
Player of the Week
Claudia Llamas, UMBC – So., OutSide Hitter, Barcelona, Spain
- Led the team in kills and averaged 3.56 kills per set on the week.
- Had a career-high 19 kills on .316 hitting in only four sets against Binghamton.
- This is Llamas’s first #AEVB Player of the Week honor of the season.
Setter of the Week
Maria Olga Siapani, UAlbany – So., Setter, Limassol, Cyprus
- Recorded 50 assists and 26 digs in a 3-2 loss to UNH.
- Siapani averaged 10.0 assists and 5.2 digs per set last week.
- This is Siapani’s third #AEVB Setter of the Week honor of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Howard, UMBC – Jr., Libero, Inwood, West Va.
- Averaged 5.11 digs per set and tallied 25 in only four sets at Binghamton.
- Anchored the defense to secure a 1-1 record over the weekend.
- This is Howard’s third #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Maya Coblentz-Brown, Binghamton – Fr., Right Side Hitter, Irvine, Calif.
- Coblentz-Brown recorded 36 kills, seven total blocks and two digs in three matches over the past week.
- This is Coblentz-Brown third #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
