#AEXC Week 9: UMass Lowell Sweeps Final Weekly Awards

BOSTON – UMass Lowell swept awards in the final weekend before the #AEXC Championship.

UMass Lowell traveled to the CCSU Mini Meet alongside New Hampshire to compete in the last meet of the regular season. The mini meet featured a men’s varsity 5k and a women’s 3k. On the men’s side, UMass Lowell finished with an average time of 15:20 while New Hampshire came in at 15:54. Chris Guerin, of the River Hawks, completed the course in 15:21 right behind teammate Nicholas Marcotte who passed the finish line in 15:04. Bryant competed in the Rothenberg Run hosted by Brown. Justin Shiffrin placed fifth overall with a time of 15:37.7 at a 5:01 pace.  

Bryant women’s cross-country team finished third at the Rothenberg Run. Junior Kelley MacElhiney completed the 3k course in 10:41 while averaging a 5:43 mile, placing fifth in the event. Emily Burdick, of UMass Lowell, finished the 3k varsity race at the CCSU Mini Meet, claiming 19th place with a time of 10:37.77.

Next weekend, all nine institutions will be in action at the America East Cross Country Championship with the men’s 8k race starting at 11:00 AM and women’s 5k race beginning at 12:00 PM. Both races will be shown live on AmericaEast.TV and results will be updated throughout each race on https://lancertiming.com/.

#AEXC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 27
Female Performer of the Week 
Emily Burdick, UMass Lowell – Jr., Billerica, Mass.
  • In the varsity 3k race at the CCSU Mini Meet, Burdick claimed 19th place with a time of 10:37.77
  • Earned Burdick’s first #AEXC Performer of the Week honor this year.

Female Rookie of the Week 
Brooke Nedeau, UMass Lowell – Fr., Amherst, Mass.
  • Nedeau claimed 22nd place with a 10:40.53 mark at the CCSU Mini Meet in the varsity 3k.
  • This is Nedeau’s first #AEXC Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Male Performer of the Week 
Nicholas Marcotte, UMass Lowell – Jr., Hudson, N.H.
  • Marcotte was the first UMass Lowell runner to finish past the line in the varsity 5k race at the CCSU Mini Meet, earning ninth at a 15:04.03 mark.
  • This is Marcotte’s first #AEXC Performer of the Week honor this year.
     
Male Rookie of the Week 
Chris Guerin, UMass Lowell – Fr., Shrewsbury, Mass.
  • In the varsity 5k at the CCSU Mini Meet, Guerin finished in 15th place with a time of 15:21.15
  • This is Guerin’s first Rookie of the Week honor.
