2025 #AEXC Championship Set for Friday

BOSTONAll nine teams will compete in the 2025 America East Cross Country Championship on Friday.

The championship will take place at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and will be hosted by UMass Lowell. The men will kick off the action at 11:00 a.m. with the 8k race, followed by the women, who are slated to take on the 5k course at 12:00 p.m.

Need to Know

Last Time Out for the WomenNew Hampshire utilized its depth to capture its first women’s conference title since 2019. The Wildcats had four runners finish in the top ten to come away with a 21-point victory over UMass Lowell, 52–73. The 2023 champions, Binghamton, finished third with 85 points. UMass Lowell’s Mary-Kate Finn took home her second straight individual title, this time in 17:04.36, nine seconds ahead of Jasmine Trott of Bryant.

Last Time Out for the MenThe UMass Lowell men made it five straight #AEXC Championships with an impressive performance at the Hard’Ack Recreation Area in St. Albans. Jan Wouter Van Den Akker led the River Hawks to their fifth consecutive championship by placing third, followed by Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger in fourth. The River Hawks won by 28 points, with all seven of their runners finishing in the top 16 overall. Maine placed second with 64 points, while Binghamton was third with 83.
 
 

Female Runners to Watch

Jessie Fotheringham, NJIT – Fotheringham, the freshman phenom and Australian U20 3,000m champion, has made an immediate impact. She has finished in the top ten in all her outings this season, including an eighth-place finish in the college race at Paul Short.
Claire Ronan, New Hampshire – Ronan, the Wildcats’ top finisher at last year’s #AEXC Championship, ran her way to a bronze medal and helped lead her team to victory in 2024. The senior is the America East indoor 1000m champion and claimed gold in the 1500m and 4x800m during the outdoor season.
Helen Shearer, Maine – Shearer is making her #AEXC Championship debut after transferring from Army West Point during the 2025 indoor season. The senior finished second at the NEICAAA Championships earlier this month, running 17:28.3 in the 5k.
Jasmine Trott, Bryant – Trott, the runner-up at the 2024 #AEXC Championship, is looking to upgrade her silver medal to gold. During her junior outdoor campaign, she and teammate Chloe Whiting became the first women from Bryant to qualify for the NCAA Division I Track and Field First Round.
Ruth White, New Hampshire – White, a sophomore, had a breakout season on the track last year, claiming gold in the 10,000m at the America East Championships before going on to finish ninth at the NCAA Championships.
 
 

Male Runners to Watch

Charlie Collins, Maine – Collins looks to return to the top of the results after finishing second in 2023 and sixth in 2024. The junior was the America East outdoor 3,000m steeplechase champion and finished second in the 5,000m.
Daniel Danilovitz, UMBC – Danilovitz enters his second #AEXC Championship after placing 25th as a freshman. He’s looking to make a bigger impact with a full collegiate year under his belt.
Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger, UMass Lowell – Kennedy-Wonneberger, last year’s fourth-place finisher and second River Hawk across the line, is a junior with individual gold medals in both the indoor 3,000m and outdoor 1,500m. He’ll look to add a cross country title to his collection.
Andrew Roosenblatt, Binghamton – Roosenblatt is the Bearcats’ top returning finisher and the fourth-highest returner overall after placing 11th last year. The junior made major strides between 2023 and 2024 and is looking to make another leap toward the top.
Jan Wouter Van Den Akker, UMass Lowell – The senior, the 2023 #AEXC champion, is looking to regain the title after finishing third last year in a loaded field. He finished 11th in the college race at Paul Short and will aim to help his team secure a sixth straight title.
