#AEXC Week 5: Maine Sweeps Weekly Awards

BOSTON - Maine and Vermont found plenty of success on the road over the weekend. 

The Vermont cross country team came away victorious in the Equality Invitational hosted by St. Michael’s College over the weekend. Claire MacDonald had a dominant performance in the women’s 8k with a time of 30:59.1 while three runners on the men’s side finished top five. Maine traveled to Columbia, Missouri to compete in the Gans Greek Classic. The Black Bears showed early signs of the success as the men finished in 9th place overall with 321 points and the women finished in 12th. Megan Randall was Maine’s top finisher with a time of 21:10.3 while Charlie Collins crossed the finish line with a time of 24:17.1.

It's another busy weekend for our cross-country teams as Bryant, UMass Lowell, UMBC, Binghamton, Vermont, New Hampshire, and NJIT will all face off at the Paul Short Invitational Run hosted by Lehigh.

#AEXC Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 29
Female Performer of the Week 
Megan Randall, Maine – Redshirt Jr., Bangor, Maine
  • Finished with the top 6k time in the conference and placed top 20 overall at the Gans Creek Classic.
  • Completed the 6k course in time of 21:10.3 at a 5:40.7 mile pace.
  • Earned third career #AEXC Performer of the Week honor.

Female Rookie of the Week 
Zara Darkin, Maine – Fr., Preston, United Kingdom
  • Ran a personal best of 22:58 in the 6k race over the weekend.
  • Ran at a 6:09.7 mile pace. 
  • This is Darkin’s first #AEXC Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Male Performer of the Week 
Charlie Collins, Maine – Jr., Hampden, Maine
  • Collins finished with a top 8k time in the conference at a time of 24:17.1.  
  • He completed the course at a 4:53.1 pace.
  • This is Collin’s first Performer of the Week honor this year.
     
Male Rookie of the Week 
Ethan Keller, Maine – Fr., Scarborough, Maine
  • Finished the 8k course at Gans Creek Classic with a time of 25:51 on Friday.
  • Finished the 8k course at a 5:10 mile pace.
  • This is Keller’s first Rookie of the Week honor.
