#AETF Week 6: Teams Begin Gearing Up for the Championship Meet

BOSTON – Several personal bests for multiple teams as we inch closer to the #AETF Indoor Championship.

Binghamton was joined by UMBC at the Penn State National Open. UMBC had five student athletes reach personal bests in multiple different events. Anna Creel set a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 24.52 while Joey Ensor finished the 100 meter with a personal record of 2:26.08. For the Bearcats, Sydney Leitner took second overall in the 3,000 with a time of 9:54.70.

Vermont, UMass Lowell, and Bryant all faced off at the John Thomas Terrier Classic. On the women’s side, Ryleigh Garrow secured a victory in the high jump clearing 1.66 meters. For Bryant, Chloe Whiting earned a school record and a first-place win in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:05.69. The Riverhawks found their stride as sophomore Michael Fisher finished in sixth place with a personal best time of 47.50 in the 400 meters.

All nine #AETF teams will compete this weekend with only two more weekends of competition before the #AETF Indoor Championship begins Friday, February 20th.

Male Field Athlete of the Week
Zhi Luncheon-Lowrie, UAlbany – Jr., Latham, N.Y.
  • Finished first in the high jump at the Cornell Invite.
  • His height of 2.02 meters is second in the conference behind his own previous jump of 2.03 meters.
  • This is Luncheon-Lowrie’s first #AETF Field Athlete of the Week honor this year.

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Jacob Smith, UAlbany – Gr., England
  • Took home first place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.62. Now ranks second in the northeast.
  • Smith’s time is fourth best in program history and fastest in the conference by three seconds.
  • This is Smiths first indoor #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor.
 
Male Rookie Athlete of the Week
Ojigwe Olua, UMBC – Fr., Catosnville, Md.   
  • Finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.93.
  • Remains the top time in the conference.
  • This is Olua’s second indoor #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor in a row.

Female Field Athlete of the Week
Nattaly Lindo, UAlbany – So., Valley Stream, N.Y.
  • Finished second at the Millrose Games with a 19.02-meter weight throw.
  • Previous throw ranks first in the conference while also ranking ninth in the conference in the shot put (12.60m).
  • This is Lindo’s first #AETF weekly honor of the year.

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Chloe Whiting, Bryant – Sr., Randolph, N.J.
  • Broke the school record for the women’s 5k at the Terrier Classic.
  • Whiting finished first place with a time of 16:05.69 and leads the conference by over eight seconds.
  • This is Whiting’s first #AETF weekly honor of the year.
 
Female Rookie Athlete of the Week
Enazajah Young, UMBC – Fr., New Market, Md.
  • Finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35.
  • Tied for her own previous school record.
  • This is Young’s fourth #AETF Track Athlete of the Week honor of the year.
