Bryant Hosts Saint Louis in NCAA Third Round


BOSTON – Fresh off the team’s first-ever NCAA victory, the No. 11 Bryant will host Saint Louis on Sunday at 6 p.m., seeking a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
 
The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Third Round with a 1-0 shutout of Seton Hall last weekend. Muslim Umar scored the lone goal in the 57th minute, while Enzo Carvalho made two saves to preserve the shutout.
 
This season Bryant is 17-2-2, with its lone two losses to Vermont. The Bulldogs’ .857 win percentage is the best in the nation and is tied for 7th in the nation having allowed just 12 goals all season. Jaime Amaro leads the league with 27 points thanks to ten goals and seven assists, while Marc Pitarch Bayot is second in the league with six assists. Mamadi Jiana is tied for third in the conference with seven goals while Enzo Carvalho has a league-low 0.65 GAA and .788 save percentage.
 
Saint Louis enters Sunday’s action on an 11-game unbeaten streak with an overall record of 12-2-7. The Bilikins took down Kentucky in the NCAA First Round 2-1 in double overtime and then shut out No. 6 Indiana 1-0 in the Second Round. They are looking to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2021, when they fell to No. 2 Washington. Saint Louis has only allowed 13 total goals this year but have only scored 24 times in 21 games. Three players have three or more goals, led by Theo Franca with five goals and one assist.
 
Bryant and Saint Louis have two common opponents this year. Both teams took down Seton Hall 1-0 this year while the Bulldogs beat Rhode Island 2-1 and the Bilikins played them to a 1-1 draw.
 
Since 2014, the America East has had five different programs reach the NCAA Round of 16: Bryant, UAlbany, UMBC, New Hampshire and Vermont. Bryant (2025), UAlbany (2016), and UMBC (2014) have each reached once. UNH advanced in 2017 and 2021, while Vermont has reached each of the past three seasons (2022, 2023, 2024). Since 2021, the league is 14-7-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
 
In three years at Bryant, Ruben Resendes has a record of 43-10-8 (.770). In the nine seasons prior to his arrival, Bryant men’s soccer won a total of 41 games (4.5 per season). The Bulldogs own a 19-6-2 record at Beirne Stadium over the past three seasons.
