BOSTON – No. 11 Bryant shut out Seton Hall 1-0 in the NCAA Second Round, while top-seeded Vermont was upset 3-2 in overtime by Hofstra.

The Bulldogs’ Muslim Umar scored in the 57th minute while the defense secured the clean sheet as Bryant earned its first men’s soccer championship victory.

In Burlington, Vermont took an early 1-0 lead, but Hofstra scored back-to-back goals in the 66th and 68th minutes to pull in front 2-1. The Catamounts evened the scored on a header in the 84th minute, but the Pride scored in overtime to advance.

Vermont’s loss snapped its 29-game unbeaten streak and ended the team’s hopes at defending their national title. On Sunday five of the top six seeds in the championship failed to advance out of the Second Round.

For Bryant, Mamadi Jiana layered an excellent pass down the pitch early in the second half to get the Bulldogs rolling. Muslim Umar tracked the ball brilliantly and delivered a header for the only goal of the match into the upper corner of the net.

With this win in the books the Bulldogs are set to host the third round of the NCAA Division I men's soccer championship against Saint Louis this Sunday at 4 p.m. The Black and Gold have a record of 17-2-2 and are the highest-seeded program in their quadrant of the bracket.
