#AEWSOC Week 10: Binghamton Remains Team to Beat

BOSTON – The conference standings became a bit clearer after a pair of game days, with Binghamton securing a top-two seed and Vermont distancing themselves from the rest of the field as well.

Binghamton secured a win and a tie last week and still top the league standings with 17 points (5-0-2) and secure one of the top two seeds in the upcoming conference tournamen. Vermont remains close behind with 13 points (4-1-1) after winning on Thursday and losing on Sunday to UMass Lowell. The standings remain tight, as New Hampshire (2-1-3) and Bryant (2-2-3) are tied at nine points and Maine (2-2-2) and UMass Lowell (2-2-2) are tied at eight points with jus two game dates remaining.

Four league games take place this week followed by four more contests on Thursday, October 30th. Binghamton hosts Vermont in a battle for first place as the Bearcats can secure the regular season title outright with a win or tie. NJIT hosts Maine on Saturday as the Highlanders look to keep their playoff hopes alive. UMass Lowell faces UAlbany looking to secure a playoff spot and New Hampshire takes on UMBC Sunday afternoon.

The top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will qualify for the 2025 America East Women’s Soccer Championship.

  • Binghamton took down UAlbany 3-0 before tying 1-1 with New Hampshire on Sunday.
  • The Bearcats extended their unbeaten streak to 12 games (8-0-4) and also clinched a top-2 conference finish.
  • Vermont clinched a playoff berth with a 3-1 dominant win over NJIT on Thursday night.  
  • UMass Lowell took down the Catamounts in the final minutes of the conference match up on Sunday.
  • A lone goal, scored by freshman Nora Belin, in the final minutes of the match gave the Riverhawks their second conference win of the season.
  • After a tie with UMass Lowell (1-1), Maine took down UMBC 2-0 on Sunday night after having an 8-3 edge on shots on goal.  
  • Bryant won their fifth shoutout of the season with a 1-0 win over NJIT on Sunday. Emily Supple scored the lone goal in the 28th minute of the match.
  • NJIT’s Briana Andreoli leads the league in points (19) and in goals (8).
  • Vermont’s Kylee Carafoli leads the conference in goals against average (.783), save percentage (.830) and shutouts (5).
  • Four more conference games take place this week.

Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 20
Offensive Player of the Week
Paige Luke, Binghamton – Jr., Forward, Ilion, New York
  • Scored two goals in the two games to move into first place in the conference in points per game (1.2).
  • Luke currently leads the league in assists with six on the season.
  • This is Luke’s first #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sonja Zeepvat, New Hampshire – Jr., Goalkeeper, Mendham, New Jersey
  • Zeepvat only allowed one goal over two games and went 0-0-2 on the week while averaging 0.50 goals against and a .889 save percentage.
  • Made eight saves on nine shots on goal. Zeepvat posted her second shutout of the season with one save in the 0-0 tie at Bryant.
  • This is Zeepvat’s first #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Nora Belin, UMass Lowell – Fr., Forward, Stockholm, Sweden
  • Scored in both games this week while Bryant went 1-0-1. Currently on a two-game goal streak.
  • Recorded three shots and the game-winning goal against Vermont on Sunday
  • This is Belin’s second career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
