#AEWSOC Week 9: Binghamton, UMBC, UNH & UVM Earn Wins

BOSTON – Four #AEWSOC teams earned wins as the league slate passed the midway point on Sunday. Binghamton, UMBC, New Hampshire and Vermont all posted victories.

The Bearcats still top the league standings with 13 points (4-0-1) while the Catamounts are right behind with 10 points (3-0-1). The Wildcats are in third place with seven points (2-1-1) and the Retrievers, who are seeking their first America East Championship berth since 2015, moved up to fourth place with six points (2-3-0).

All nine teams will play eight league games, facing every other conference opponent once with teams receiving three points for a win, one for a tie and zero for a loss. The top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will qualify for the 2025 America East Women’s Soccer Championship.

  • Binghamton edged UMass Lowell, 1-0, behind a solid defensive effort and a goal from Alexus Worrell.
  • The Bearcats extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games (7-0-3) with the win.
  • Vermont got another shutout from America East Defensive Player of the Week Kylee Carafoli as it beat Maine, 1-0, for its third straight win.
  • The Catamounts have posted three-straight wins and are 5-1-2 over their last eight games.
  • UNH is 2-0-1 in its last three league games after posted a 3-1 win at UAlbany. Abbi Maier posted three points and earned America East Offensive Player of the Week honors.
  • UMBC got first-half goals from Payton Schenning and Reagan Casper and held off Bryant to earn a 2-1 win.
  • NJIT’s Briana Andreoli leads the league in both points (19) and goals (8).
  • Vermont’s Kylee Carafoli leads the conference in goals against average (.737), save percentage (.825) and shutouts (5).
  • Eight more conference games take place this week.

Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 13

Offensive Player of the Week
Abbi Maier, New Hampshire – Sr., Midfielder, Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Had a league-best three points last week by notching a goal and an assist in UNH’s 3-1 win at UAlbany on Sunday.
  • Scored on a rocket from 35 yards out in the 80th minute.
  • This is Maier’s first career #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kylee Carafoli, Vermont – Sr., Goalkeeper, Plymouth, Mass.
  • Made five saves in a 1-0 win over Maine on Sunday.  
  • The shutout is her fifth of the season.
  • This is Carafoli’s third #AEWSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Zoe Brossman, UMBC – Fr., Forward/Midfielder, Richboro, Pa.
  • Had an assist on UMBC’s first goal in a 2-1 victory over Bryant on Sunday.
  • Set up Payton Schenning score in the 6th minute to give the Retrievers a 1-0 lead.
  • This is Brossman’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
