Men's #AEHoops Week 9: Bryant, UMass Lowell, NJIT, Vermont Win League Openers

BOSTON –  Conference play kicked for eight men’s #AEHoops teams on Saturday. Bryant, UMass Lowell and NJIT came away with victories.
Eight more games take place this week.

Every game matters as the top four teams in the standings at the end of the regular season earn home court advantage the Air Force Reserve #AEPlayoffs.

Need to Know
  • Vermont shot an efficient 53 percent from the floor to help beat UNH, 80-61, in its league opener on Saturday.
  • TJ Hurley led the way with 20 points while Gus Yalden added 18 and Sean Blake had 17.
  • KiJan Robinson paced UNH with 22.
  • UMass Lowell scored 83 points, its second-most vs. a Division I oppoenent this season in a win over UAlbany on Saturday.
  • Xavier Spencer led the River Hawks with 23 points while Amir Lindsey had 19 for UAlbany.
  • In a rematch of last season's America East title game, Bryant held Maine to just 32 percent shooting in a 56-51 win. Four Bulldogs scored in twin figures led by Aaron Davis' 13 points. TJ Biel had a game-high 20 for the Black Bears.
  • NJIT got 38 points from its bench led by Sebastian Robinson's game-high 22 points in a 73-65 win over Binghamton. The Highlanders outscored the Bearcats by 11 in the second half.

Player of the Week

Angel Montas, Jr., UMass Lowell – Jr., Guard, La Romana, D.R.
  • Averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a 1-1 week.
  • Shot 69 percent from the field (13-for-25).
  • Had 23 points and six rebounds vs. #25/23 Iowa on Monday.
  • Contributed 18 points and nine rebounds in a victory over UAlbany on Saturday.
  • Montas Jr.’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week

Ashley Sims II, Bryant – Fr., Glen Burnie, Md.
  • Recorded his first career double-double vs. Maine on Saturday.
  • Had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
  • This is Sims’ first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
