#AESD Week 4: Six Programs Compete Over the Weekend

BOSTON – A 35-year old pool record fell this past weekend, while a number of swimmers set league-best marks in a solid weekend of racing action, involving six America East programs.
 
Audrey Mahoney broke former Olympian Jenny Thompson’s 1990 pool record in the 50 free at New Hampshire in a dual meet, while UMBC had an impressive showing at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. Bryant took down NJIT in a conference matchup while Binghamton, and VMI were also in action last weekend.
 
This weekend Vermont travels to Maine in a conference matchup while Bryant hosts Providence, Binghamton welcomes Canisius and New Hampshire competes at Siena.

Female Swimmer of the Week
Audrey Mahoney, New Hampshire – Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.
  • Broke Jenny Thompson’s 1990 pool record in the 50 free with a time of 22.98. First swimmer to break 23 seconds this year in the league.
  • Took first in the 100 free in a league-best time of 53.00 seconds and helped the team to wins in the 400 medley and 200 medley relays.
  • This is Mahoney’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor of the season.
 
Female Diver of the Week
Grace Blume, New Hampshire – Jr., Dedham, Mass.
  • Swept both diving events, highlighted by a league-best score of 288.75 in the 1-meter event. It’s the best mark in the league by 17 points this season.
  • Blume recorded a 269.93 in the 3-meter, the third best mark in the league.
  • This is Blume’s first #AESD Diver of the Week honor of the season.
 
Female Rookie of the Week
Julia Iwanow, Binghamton – Fr.,  Portland, Ore.
  • Earned three individual victories at the Bucknell Fall Invitational, taking first in the 200 IM (2:06.21), 100 breast (1:02.53) and 200 breast (2:14.07).
  • Iwanow’s 100 and 200 breaststroke times are first in the conference, and her 200 IM is fourth best in the league.
  • This is Iwanow’s fourth straight #AESD Rookie of the Week honor.
 
2025-26 #AESD Men’s Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 20
Male Swimmer of the Week
Matthew So., UMBC – Fr., Hillsboro, Ore
  • Took second in the 100 free (44.64) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (4.83) in the Thomas Murphy Invitational. Both times are CSCAA B cuts and the top times in the league.
  • Competed in the 200 free relay (1:22.20), 400 free relay (3:00.23) and 400 medley relay (3:19.61), all three times are best in the league.
  • This is So’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week honor this season.
 
Male Diver of the Week
Christopher Buonocore, Bryant – Sr., Long Beach, N.Y. 
  • Won the one-meter diving event with a season-best score of 333.80 and also claimed victory in the three-meter event with a 304.95.
  • Buonocore’s one-meter score is the best in the league by 33 points ths season.
  • This is Buonocore’s second #AESD Diver of the Week honor this season.
 
Male Rookie of the Week
Matthew So, UMBC – Fr., Hillsboro, Ore
