A Trio of Repeat #AEMSOC Major Award Winners in 2023

BOSTON – Five student-athletes, including a pair of repeat honorees have earned major awards for their play during the 2023 #AEMSOC regular season. New Hampshire led all schools with four major award winners after claiming its fifth straight regular season title last week.
 
New Hampshire’s Yannick Bright claimed Midfielder of the Year honors for a third straight season while Taylor Calheira of UMBC was named Striker of the Year once again. Vermont’s Nick Lockermann earned Rookie of the Year honors, while UNH’s Cameron Briggs and Joseba Incera took home Defender and Goalkeeper of the Year recognition. Marc Hubbard and his UNH staff were honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year. 
 
2023 #AEMSOC Major Award Winners
Striker of the Year
Taylor Calheira, Sr., UMBC
  • Ranked second in the conference in points (24) and goals (10).
  • Posted three game-winning goals while helping UMBC earn its highest #AEMSOC Tournament seed since 2015.
  • First-Team All-Conference selection.
  • Second #AEMSOC player to earn Striker of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons, joining UMBC’s Pete Caringi III (2012, 2013).
 
Midfielder of the Year
Yannick Bright, Sr., New Hampshire
  • Totaled a pair of assists while registering 16 shots.
  • Led UNH to unbeaten conference mark (4-0-3) and scoring margin of +21.
  • First-Team All-Conference selection.
  • Second player in conference history to earn Midfielder of the Year honors three straight seasons.
 
Defender of the Year
Cameron Briggs, Gr., New Hampshire
  • Started 15 games on defense, helping UNH to 11-1-4 overall record, and unbeaten record in conference play (4-0-3).
  • Anchored a defense that has only allowed more than two goals once all season and is in the midst of a 12-game unbeaten streak.
  • First-Team All-Conference honoree.
  • Fifth straight Wildcat to be named Defender of the Year and eighth time a Wildcat has won the award.
 
Goalkeeper of the Year
Joseba Incera, Gr., New Hampshire
  • Posted a 9-1-3 record and second in the conference in both GAA (0.62) and save percentage (.784).
  • Hasn’t given up more than one goal in a game this season, to go along with four shutouts.
  • First-Team All-Conference.
  • Fifth different Wildcat to be named Goalkeeper of the Year and first since the spring of 2021.
 
Rookie of the Year
Nick Lockermann, Fr., Vermont
  • Led all rookies and tied for second in the conference in assists (7).
  • Helped anchor a defense which ranked third in the conference and 12th nationally in GAA (0.722).
  •  Seventh Catamount to be named Rookie of the Year and first since spring of 2021.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year
New Hampshire (Marc Hubbard Head Coach)
  • Led UNH to fifth straight regular season championship, matching the conference record.
  • UNH has posted a 11-1-4 record and currently owns a 12-game unbeaten streak.
  • Won Coaching Staff of the Year for the fifth consecutive season, an #AEMSOC record, and the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
  • Marc Hubbard is assisted by Brad Campion, Jon Shaad, David Williams and Panos Galatas.
 
The 2023 America East #AEMSOC Championship continues with semifinal action on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Top seed UNH hosts No. 5 NJIT at 6 p.m. while #2 Bryant welcomes #6 Binghamton at 7 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the conference title on Sunday, Nov. 12.
