Weekend Preview: Sept. 25-27

BOSTON – This weekend conference play gets underway for men’s soccer and women’s volleyball, while women’s soccer competes in its second conference contests.
 
Men’s Soccer
  • Conference play begins on Saturday evening, highlighted by No. 23 Vermont hosting No. 25 Bryant at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. These two programs have played in the last two  conference championships against each other, with UVM winning both. The Catamounts are 8-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
  • New Hampshire and UAlbany have both had impressive results this season and the Great Danes host the Wildcats at 6 p.m. The teams are 1-1-1 against each other the past three years, including a 3-1 UAlbany victory last year.
  • Binghamton looks for a crucial conference points against a scrappy NJIT squad as both teams missed the playoffs a season ago.
  • UMBC and UMass Lowell both went 2-3-2 in league play a season ago, though the Retrievers earned a crucial 2-0 victory over the River Hawks last year.
 
Volleyball
  • Defending conference champion UMBC travels to play UAlbany on Friday at 6 p.m. seeking to start league play 1-0. The Retrievers then play at Bryant on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. both teams went 7-3 to earn a share of the regular season title last season.
  • Bryant hosts NJIT on Friday evening at 7 p.m. looking to start league play strong after its best conference regular season since joining the America East last year.
  • On Sunday, New Hampshire welcomes Binghamton in a matchup between the 9-4 Wildcats and 8-4 Bearcats who have each had big-time non-conference wins earlier this season.
 
Women’s Soccer
  • Non-conference action picks up on Sunday as three-time defending conference champion Maine looks to stay perfect when it hosts UMass Lowell at 12 p.m.
  • NJIT seeks to start conference play 2-0 for the first time since joining the America East when it travels to face UAlbany at 2 p.m.
  • Binghamton earned a draw with the River Hawks last week and looks to stay unbeaten when it squares up against Bryant, who it playing its first conference contest of the season.
  • UMBC and UNH both dropped their openers and play for crucial points in the standings on Sunday in Baltimore at 1 p.m.
 
Field Hockey
  • Maine is the lone team that plays twice this weekend, traveling to American on Friday and the Black Bears face Towson on Sunday afternoon.
  • New Hampshire plays Holy Cross on Sunday looking to capture its second victory of the season.
  • UMass Lowell was won 3 of 4 and hopes to stay hot on Sunday against Brown, while Vermont travels down to Dartmouth.
