BOSTON – Conference play begins for women’s soccer on Sunday while men’s soccer and volleyball conclude their last full weekend of conference action this weekend.
Women’s Soccer
- Entering the first weekend of conference play, six #AEWSOC programs have won at least three games, highlighted by UMBC at 6-2-2.
- UMBC Head coach Rick Stainton has the team off to its best start since 2014 and they look to continue the hot streak when they travel to face Vermont (2-4-2), last year’s runner-up, on Sunday at 12 p.m.
- Binghamton started the season 4-0-2 but has dropped its last two games, a 2-1 decision at Maryland and a 1-0 contest to Cornell. Last year’s regular season champion has only allowed three goals this year and hosts UMass Lowell on Sunday at 12 p.m. The River Hawks are 3-4-1 and in the midst of a two-game win streak.
- Three-time defending champion Maine is 3-3-2 this season and hosts UAlbany at 1 p.m., looking to start their title defense against a Great Dane squad that is 2-4-1 but unbeaten in its past three matches.
- The final conference matchup on Sunday features New Hampshire at NJIT. The Wildcats are 3-3-2 overall but have dropped two straight to Yale and Harvard, while the 3-4-1 Highlanders beat LIU 3-0 last week before a 5-0 loss at No. 7 North Carolina last weekend.
Men’s Soccer
- No. 18 Vermont and No. 24 Bryant are the lone remaining unbeaten teams in #AEMSOC action, with UVM and Bryant owning matching 5-0-2 marks. Overall 6 of 8 teams are above .500, including New Hampshire at 5-1-1 and unbeaten in its last six contests.
- The Catamounts are coming off a 1-0 victory at Hofstra, the team which beat them in last year’s NCAA Tournament. They travel to battle Dartmouth on Saturday in their final contest before conference play begins.
- Bryant battles No. 11 Princeton on Saturday, looking to stay unbeaten this season while New Hampshire heads west to face a Portland team which was ranked as high at No. 3 in the nation earlier this season.
- In other action UAlbany, Binghamton and NJIT are on the road, while UMass Lowell and UMBC are both home.
Volleyball
- Three teams over records over .500, highlighted by Binghamton which has won six straight to push its record to 6-3 overall. New Hampshire is 7-3 this year, despite dropping each of its past two matches.
- Defending champion UMBC is 4-3 and travels to face Villanova and Temple this weekend.
- New Hampshire faces a tough test this weekend, playing at Furman and Clemson, while Binghamton battles Dartmouth, Quinnipiac and Boston College this weekend.
- Bryant looks to get back on track this weekend against Rutgers, St. John’s and Penn while NJIT hosts New Haven and Iona this weekend.
Field Hockey
- This year 5 of 6 teams own a .500 record or better, led by Vermont at 4-1 overall and UAlbany at 3-2.
- The Great Danes face a pair of tough tests this week, hosting Rutgers and No. 6 UMass while UMass Lowell plays at No. 12 Syracuse and hosts Stonehill.
- Vermont travels to Fairfield on Sunday, while Bryant hosts Boston University and Sacred Heart.
- Maine welcomes Dartmouth on Sunday while New Hampshire looks for a win at home against Boston U.
Cross Country
- Seven teams are in action on Saturday, with UMass Lowell, Bryant and New Hampshire competing at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
- NJIT, UAlbany, Maine and Vermont also compete.
