Teams Shine on First Day of 2026 #AETF Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – Ten athletes were crowned champions, while the Wildcat men and Bulldog women lead after the first day of competition at the 2026 America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Wildcats lead the men’s team standings with 33 points, followed by the River Hawks (30) and Bearcats (29). On the women’s side, the Bulldogs sit in first with 54 points, followed by the Wildcats (47) and Great Danes (20).

Around the rainy oval, UAlbany’s Jeb Elmbarki crossed the line first in the 3,000m steeplechase, running 8:56.43 to finish 0.56 seconds ahead of Maine’s Charlie Collins. In the women’s steeplechase, Maine's Veselja Treacy earned her first individual conference championship, running a personal-best 10:14.14.

In the longest race of the meet, the 10,000m, William Benoit led a 1-2 finish for the River Hawks alongside Wouter Van Den Akker, as the duo crossed the line in 29:33.52 and 29:34.16, respectively.

UAlbany’s Brooks Robson jumped to a lifetime-best mark of 7.47m to capture gold in the men’s long jump, edging New Hampshire’s Ethan Palmer by 0.10 meters. In the women’s long jump, Sarah Moore, the 2026 America East Indoor Performer of the Year, picked up where she left off, becoming the only woman to surpass 6.00m with a leap of 6.13m.

Vermont’s Emma Wapshare claimed her first America East title in the women’s javelin with a toss of 47.83m, finishing more than three meters ahead of the runner-up. On the men’s side, Toren Burr also collected his first gold medal in the javelin with a lifetime-best throw of 64.66m, beating the competition by roughly five meters.

UAlbany’s Keegna Collins topped the field in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 55.73m on her second attempt, followed by Emma Reaves, who threw 55.35m in the preliminaries. The closest competition of the day came in the men’s hammer throw, where there were three lead changes during the final round and the top three competitors all surpassed 65 meters. New Hampshire’s Liam McGovern secured the title on his final throw with a personal-best mark of 66.60m.

Competition will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. with the men's pole vault.
