#AEBASE Week 14: UMBC & Maine Earns Sweeps to Secure Top-Three Seeds

BOSTON – UMBC took care of business with a three-game sweep of last place NJIT to capture the No. 2 Seed, while Maine won three against UAlbany to claim the No. 3 Seed as the #AEBASE regular season came to an end on Saturday.
 
Picked to finish last in the preseason poll, the Retrievers belted their way to 36 runs in a sweep of the Highlanders and a 15-9 conference mark. Maine finished right behind them at 14-10 by sweeping UAlbany with 30 runs over the three contests. Top seed Binghamton won 2-of-3 against UMass Lowell to finish league play 17-7.

The #AEBASE Championship, presented by Visit Binghamton begins with single elimination games on Wednesday No. 4 Bryant faces No. 5 UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. and No. 3 Maine battles No. 6 UAlbany at 5 p.m. No. 1 Binghamton opens Thursday’s action at 11 a.m. against one of Wednesday’s winners, while No. 2 UMBC will play at 3 p.m.

Player of the Week
Juju Stevens, Maine – Gr., Outfield, Durham, N.C.
  • Hit .385 overall in a 4-0 week with nine RBI, eight runs scored, five hits and a .923 slugging percentage.
  • Went 4-for-9 with five runs and eight RBI against UAlbany, including two games of 3+ RBI.
  • This is Stevens’ first #AEBASE Player of the Week honor
 
Pitcher of the Week
Jason Krieger, Maine – R-Jr., Pitcher, Red Lion, Pa.
  • Went 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one run with six strikeouts in a 12-1 victory over UAlbany.
  • Faced 23 batters and in the complete game without issuing a walk and holding batters to a 0.87 average.
  • This is Krieger’s first #AEBASE Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Dylan Melton, UMBC – Fr., First Base, Ellicott City, Md.
  • Hit .529 while slugging .600 in a 3-1 week for the Retrievers.
  • Went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles in a 12-4 win against NJIT.
  • This is Melton’s first #AEBASE Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
