Men's #AEHoops Week 12: NJIT Takes Over First Place

BOSTON –  NJIT continued its hot streak with a pair of wins and took over sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Highlanders, the lone team to go 2-0 last week, posted wins over UMass Lowell and Binghamton to extend their win streak to four and improve to 8-2 in #AEHoops play.  
 
The Highlanders sit one half game ahead of UMBC (7-2), which won its lone game last week, while Vermont is in third place (7-3). UMass Lowell moved into fourth and sits at 5-5.
 
Need to Know 
  • NJIT’s eight #AEHoops wins are its most since joining the league ahead of the 2020-21 season.
  • The Highlanders beat UMass Lowell, 81-56, on Thursday and Binghamton, 73-64, on Saturday.
  • UMBC, winner of five of its last six games, beat Binghamton, 79-62 in its lone game of the week.
  • Seven of the league’s nine teams won a game last week with UAlbany, Bryant, Maine, UMass Lowell and Vermont also earning a victory.
Player of the Week 
Ari Fulton, NJIT – So., Guard, Fayetteville, N.C. 
  • Averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a 2-0 week. 
  • Shot 67 percent the field (12-for-18). 
  • Had 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win over UMass Lowell on Thursday.
  • Tallied 21 points, nine board and three assists in a win over Binghamton on Saturday.
  • This is Fulton’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season. 
  
Rookie of the Week 
Victor Okojie, UMass Lowell – Fr., Forward, Castlebar, Ireland
  • Averaged a double-double of 11.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Had a career-high 22 points and  11 rebounds in a win over UAlbany on Saturday.
  • This is Okojie’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
