#AEMSOC Week 9: Bulldogs & Catamounts Stay Unbeaten

BOSTON – No. 2 Bryant extended the nation’s longest win streak ahead of a tough week of action while No. 7 Vermont also stayed unbeaten with an impressive road win at New Hampshire.
 
The Bulldogs have won 13 in a row after a pair of shutout wins at Brown and Binghamton this past week. After a pair of ties, Vermont’s offense exploded for three goals in a win at New Hampshire to move to 9-0-5 overall. The NCAA released its top-16 projection on Friday, with Vermont at No. 8 and Bryant at No. 11. These two teams face off with first place on the line in Smithfield on Saturday night at 6 pm.
 
 
Need to Know:
  • On Bryant went to Brown on Tuesday and shut out the Bears 3-0 and then locked down Binghamton 2-0 to improve to 13-0-1 overall.
  • Vermont game through with three goals at New Hampshire to improve to 9-0-5 overall and extend their unbeaten streak to 24 total games.
  • UAlbany continued its strong season with a 2-0 shutout of UMBC, for its second conference win of the season.
  • UMass Lowell earned its seventh win of the season, surpassing last year’s total with a 1-0 shutout of NJIT.
 
On Tuesday, Bryant faces off against Princeton, who is currently ranked No. 1 in RPI in the nation and unbeaten in nine straight games. The Bulldogs follow it up by hosting Vermont on Saturday at 6 pm. UMass Lowell and UAlbany could also clinch playoff spots with victories this coming weekend, while UNH looks for a key home win.

David Ismail, Vermont – Sr., Forward, Bayreuth, Germany
  • Recorded one goal and one assist in a 3-0 victory at New Hampshire.
  • Assisted on the first goal of game and then scored the second to provide insurance early in the second half
  • This is Ismail’s second #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Abdel Talabi, Bryant – Gr., Defense, Brewster, Mass.
  • Anchored a defense that earned a pair of road shutouts and scored a goal in each victory.
  • Scored the opening goal in both games to get Bryant off to first half leads.
  • This is Talabi’s first #AEMSOC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Nicolas Loebus, Vermont – Fr., Midfield, Bad Homburg, Germany
  • Scored opening goal in a 3-0 victory at New Hampshire.
  • This is Loebus’ first #AEMSOC Rookie of the Week honor.

The America East is one of the best men’s soccer conferences in the country and home to the defending national champions from Vermont. In 2024, the Catamounts led the nation in RPI and the America East finish fifth as a conference. It marked the league’s second straight top-six finish in RPI. Overall The conference has received multiple bids to the NCAA tournament in four of the past nine seasons. Four different teams have reached the third round of the NCAA tournament since 2014.
