Vermont Claims Record Ninth Walter Harrison Academic Cup

BOSTON – America East student-athletes once again impressed in the classroom during the 2022-23 academic year, led by the University of Vermont, which captured the Walter Harrison Academic Cup for posting the highest GPA of any athletic department in America East sponsored sports.
 
As a whole, America East student-athletes combined to achieve 3.37 GPA, the second-highest cumulative GPA in conference history. 
 
“Congratulations to Vermont on its impressive department-wide achievement and congratulations to all of our student-athletes who continue to raise the bar in terms of academic achievement year in and year out,” said America East Commissioner, Brad Walker. 

Need to Know:
  • Vermont is the winner of the 2022-23 Walter Harrison Academic Cup. Catamount student-athletes in America East sponsored sports earned a cumulative 3.46 GPA last year.
  • Vermont slightly edged out Maine (3.45) and New Hampshire (3.44) to claim the cup.
  • This is Vermont’s first Academic Cup since 2010-11 and ninth in school history.
  • Vermont's nine Academic Cups are the most in conference history.
  • America East student-athletes averaged a 3.37 GPA overall in 2022-23, the second-highest in conference history.
  • All nine America East institutions averaged better than a 3.19 GPA in 2022-23.
  • It’s the 18th consecutive year America East student-athletes have averaged better than a 3.0 GPA.
