Vermont Advances to NCAA Second Round

BOSTON, Mass. – Vermont advanced to the NCAA Second Round for a second consecutive year, while Bryant saw its incredible season come to an abrupt end in the NCAA First Round on Thursday, Nov. 16.
 
Vermont earned a 3-1 victory over Rider in Burlington while the Bulldogs gave up a goal in the final two minutes of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Yale at home. The Catamounts will now travel to face UCF on Sunday in the Second Round at 6 p.m.
 
No. 8 New Hampshire had a bye to the second round and will face off against defending national champion Syracuse who took down Boston University 3-1. The Wildcats will play Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
Yaniv Bazini gave Vermont a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute and #AEMSOC Rookie of the Year Nick Lockermann made it 2-0 just five minutes later.
 
Rider cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 81st minute, but Bazini connected on a penalty kick in the 87th to push the lead back to two goals. Jack Owen made two saves to secure the win.
 
Bryant saw its record-breaking season come down to the final two minutes of regulation. The Bulldogs’ best chance came in the 76 minute, but Chris Edwards made a diving save. Yale’s Max Roger scored the game-winner from just inside midfield at 88:14 as Antreas Hadjigavriel was caught off his line.
