Hartford & New Hampshire Capture Academic Cup

BOSTON – America East student-athletes once again shined in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year, led by Hartford and the University of New Hampshire, who captured the Walter Harrison Academic Cup for posting the highest GPA of any athletic department. The Hawks and Wildcats both earned a 3.42 GPA.
 
As a whole, America East student-athletes combined to achieve 3.31 GPA, the second-highest  cumulative GPA in conference history. This also marks the fourth time two institutions have shared the Academic Cup and the third time the two schools are Hartford and UNH. They last both won the Academic Cup during the 2016-17 Academic Year.  
 
“Congratulations to Hartford and UNH, as well as all our student-athletes, for all their hard work during the academic year,” said America East Commissioner, Brad Walker. “Our student-athletes continue to represent the best of college athletics year in and year out as they excel in balancing academics, athletics and all the rigors of being a Division I student-athlete.”

  • UNH and Hartford are co-winners of the 2021-22 Walter Harrison Academic Cup with institutional GPAs of 3.42.
  • It’s the fourth time two institutions have shared the Academic Cup (2016-17, 2014-15, 2006-07).
  • UNH and Hartford have shared the Academic Cup three times (2021-22, 2016-17, 2014-15)
  • America East student-athletes averaged a 3.31 GPA overall in 2021-22, the second-highest in conference history.
  • All 10 America East institutions averaged better than a 3.10 GPA in 2021-22.
  • It’s the 17th consecutive year America East student-athletes have averaged better than a 3.0 GPA.
