Academic Achievement: Nine Student-Athletes Achieve Presidential Scholar-Athlete Status

BOSTON - Nine individuals from six America East institutions were named Presidential Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday afternoon. The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student and earned their undergraduate this December.

In addition to registering a 3.75 GPA for their college career, honored student-athletes must have received their undergraduate degree in the academic year they are honored and have attended their institution for a minimum of two years.

“Earning a college degree from one of our member institutions is an accomplishment anyone should be proud of,” said America East commissioner Brad Walker. “For these nine individuals to do so while achieving a 3.75 GPA or better and while balancing the rigors of being a Division I student-athlete is incredibly impressive. We commend them on their achievement.”

The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award program started during 2013-14 academic year. In total, 562 student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.

America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom, including its sports Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic honorees, Presidential Scholar-Athletes and its Honor Roll Elite 18 recipients.

About America East: The America East provides its member schools and their athletic programs a platform upon which student-athletes can achieve both collegiate and life success through the promotion and nurturing of athletic excellence, academic achievement and leadership, on and off the field.
