BOSTON – UMBC secured a pair of conference road wins to begin their title defense while New Hampshire had an impressive sweep in its first league contest.
Need to Know
- UMBC went on the road to UAlbany and grabbed a 2-0 lead. The Retrievers dropped the next two sets but took the final 15-8 for a 3-2 victory. They left no doubt on Sunday with a 3-0 sweep of Bryant.
- New Hampshire posted a 3-0 loss to Dartmouth midweek but rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of Binghamton at home, winning 27-25, 25-23 and 25-20 in the final set.
- Bryant did begin conference play with a 3-1 victory over NJIT before falling at home to UMBC.
- This weekend, UAlbany travels to NJIT on Friday with both teams seeking their first conference wins of the season. On Saturday Bryant travels to Binghamton for a 2 p.m. contest.
- On Sunday, UMBC hosts NJIT and UAlbany welcomes New Hampshire as the Retrievers and Wildcats look to stay perfect.

- Hit .388 while averaging 4.00 kills and 2.25 digs per set in a pair of conference victories.
- Registered 17 kills and hit .571 with nine digs in a 3- sweep of Bryant to start league play 2-0.
- This is Dobbs’ first career #AEVB Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Eve Roman, Binghamton – So., Libero, Wayne, N.J.
- Recorded a career-high 29 digs with two assists in a three-set loss to New Hampshire.
- The 29 digs is the 2nd most digs in a three-set contest by any player in the nation this season.
- This is Roman’s first #AEVB Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Setter of the Week
Jessica Shattles, New Hampshire – Sr., Setter, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
- Averaged 9.50 assists and 3.33 digs per set in a pair of matches.
- In a sweep of Binghamton, posted a double-double of 36 assists and 14 digs.
- This is Shattles’ second career #AEVB Setter of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Addy Bianchini, UAlbany – Fr., Setter, Mason, Ohio
- Averaged 9.25 assists, 2.75 digs and 1.75 blocks per set in a 3-2 loss to UMBC.
- Posted 37 assists, 11 digs and six blocks.
- This is Bianchini’s first #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor.
