#AEVB Week 3: Binghamton Extends Win Streak to Six

BOSTON – Binghamton won three straight at home to push its win streak to six, while New Hampshire and UMBC both stayed above .500 with victories last week.

Need to Know
  • Binghamton hosted the Bearcat Classic over the week, taking down Temple, Cornell and New Haven to extend its win streak to six matches. The Bearcats toughest test was a 3-2 victory over Temple, winning the final set 15-13.
  • New Hampshire opened the week with a 3-1 win over Merrimack, but was swept by UConn and Yale to conclude the weekend.
  • UMBC dropped contests to George Washington and George Mason before taking down a 6-2 Georgetown squad by a 3-1 score.
  • UAlbany fell to Dartmouth and Colgate but concluded the weekend with a 3-2 win over Northeastern.
  • Bryant went 1-3 at home over the weekend, with the lone win a 3-1 victory over Merrimack.
  • This weekend UAlbany faces tough challenges against No. 11 Purdue and then UCF. Bryant faces Rutgers and St. John’s this weekend, while UNH battles Furman and Clemson.
  • Binghamton looks to keep its win streak going against Dartmouth, Quinnipiac and Boston College, while UMBC faces Villanova and Template this weekend. NJIT hosts Seton Hall, Iona and New Haven.

Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 15
Player of the Week
Viktoria Dimitrova, Binghamton – Jr., Right Side, Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Averaged 3.62 kills, 1.15 digs and 0.92 blocks per set while earning MVP honors at the Bearcat Classic and going 3-0 at home.
  • Hit .417 with 16 kills and one error and four blocks in a 3-0 sweep of New Haven.
  • This is Dimitrova’s second career #AEVB Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Howard, UMBC – Sr., Libero, Inwood, W. Va.
  • Averaged a league-best 5.08 digs per set, 1.54 assists and 0.62 aces per set over three matches.
  • Came through with 25 digs, six assists and four service aces in a 3-1 victory over Georgetown.
  • This is Howard’s 11th career #AEVB Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Setter of the Week
Isabel Ostivig, UMBC – Jr., Setter, Fredericksburg, Va.
  • Had two double-doubles while averaging 9.46 assists, 2.31 digs and 0.77 blocks per set over three matches.
  • Went off for 48 assists, 11 digs, two aces and three blocks in a 3-1 victory over Georgetown.
  • This is Ostvig’s third career #AEVB Setter of the Week honor.

Rookie of the Week
Natalie Harris, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Orlando, Fla.
  • Hit .216 and averaged 3.88 kills per set in two starts last week.
  • Had a team-high 19 kills with three digs in a 3-1 victory over Georgetown.
  • This is Harris’ first #AEVB Rookie of the Week honor
