Top Seed Vermont Will Host #AEWLAX Championship for First Time

BOSTON –Vermont secured the No. 1 Seed in the 2026 America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship and a share of the Regular Season Championship with a tight win over UMass Lowell on the final day of the regular season. Semifinal action begins Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m. in Burlington.
 
Vermont, Bryant and UAlbany finished tied atop the conference standings with 5-1 records and all are recognized as regular season champions. The three programs went 1-1 against each other and 4-0 against the rest of the league. Vermont earned the No. 1 Seed due to the best goal differential in games between the tied programs. UAlbany then secured the No. 2 Seed thanks to its head-to-head victory over Bryant. The Bulldogs earned the No. 3 Seed.
 
The Catamounts opened conference play 0-1 with an 8-7 loss to Bryant, but won each of its final five conference matchups by at two goals to earn their first-ever regular season title and hosting duties for the #AEWLAX Championship. Bryant’s lone loss in conference play was 9-8 at UAlbany, while the Great Danes fell 14-4 to Vermont in their lone defeat.
 
Final Seeds for the 2026 #AEWLAX Championship:
  1. Vermont (5-1) – Earned No. 1 Seed for first time in program history.
  2. UAlbany (5-1) – Defending champions seek their 15th straight #AEWLAX Championship game appearance.
  3. Bryant (5-1) – Secured a share of the regular season title for a second straight season.
  4. UMBC(4-2) – Earned championship berth for the 3rd straight season.

Vermont looks to win its second-ever conference title and first since 2022, while the Great Danes seek their third in the past four seasons. UMBC and Bryant have yet to win league titles.
 
The championship kicks off on Friday with semifinal action. No. 1 Vermont battles No. 4 UMBC at 4 p.m. while No. 2 UAlbany faces No. 3 Bryant in the nightcap at 7 p.m. The Catamounts beat the Retrievers 12-8 earlier this season while the Great Danes took down the Bulldogs 9-8.
 
The semifinal winners will go head-to-head for the 2026 conference championship on Sunday at 12 p.m. All games of the 2026 America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship will air on ESPN+.
