Men's #AEHoops Week 12: Four Teams Post Perfect 2-0 Weeks

BOSTON – Four teams posted perfect weeks as Maine, UMBC, UNH and Vermont all went 2-0. Nearly at the halfway point of the league slate, UMBC and Vermont are tied atop the standings at 5-1 while NJIT is a game back at 4-2 and a trio of teams are tied for fourth place at 3-3 in UAlbany, UMass Lowell and UNH.
Every game matters as the top four teams in the standings at the end of the regular season earn home court advantage the Air Force Reserve #AEPlayoffs.

Need to Know
  • After starting #AEHoops play 0-3, UNH has won three games in a row. The Wildcats won a triple-overtime thriller vs. Binghamton on Thursday, 88-82 and followed up with a 80-72 victory over UAlbany on Saturday.
  • UMBC posted a pair of double-digit wins last week to beat NJIT, 87-74, on Thursday and UMass Lowell, 79-56, on Saturday.
  • The Retrievers have won three-straight contests by an average of 14.7 points.
  • Maine beat UAlbany 52-49 on Thursday and Binghamton, 79-63, on Saturday. The Black Bears have won two straight and three of five.
  • After dropping its first league game at UAlbany on Monday, Vermont bounced back with wins over UAlbany and Bryant to get back to the top of the league standings.
 
Looking Ahead:
  • Sole possession of first place in the league standings will be at stake when UMBC visits Vermont on Thursday. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
  • NJIT (4-2) will visit Vermont (5-1) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
     
Player of the Week
TJ Hurley, Vermont - Gr., Guard, Pelham, Ont.
  • Averaged a league-best 28.0 points in a 2-0 week.
  • Had a 50/40/90 week shooting 51 percent from the floor overall (18-for-35), 45 percent from three (9-for-20) and 92 percent from the free throw line (11-for-12).
  • Scored a career-high 30 points in a win over UMass Lowell on Wednesday and followed up with 26 points in a victory over Binghamton on Saturday.
  • This is Hurley’s second #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week

Ace Flagg, Maine - Newport, Maine, Fr., Forward
  • Averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Maine.
  • Shot 50 percent (8-for-16) from the field.
  • Had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a win over UAlbany on Thursday.
  • Had 11 points, five boards and four assists in a win over Binghamton on Saturday.
  • This is Flagg’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
