Women's #AEHoops Preview: Jan. 22-24

BOSTON – Teams can start to separate themselves this weekend, as just 0.5 games separates the top five teams in the league as we’re 1/3 of the way through the conference slate.
 
UMass Lowell (0-5) at Vermont (4-1) – 11 AM
  • The River Hawks are winless in league play and coming off a 68-57 loss to NJIT last Thursday, while the Catamounts won twice last week with double digit wins over Maine and UAlbany.
  • UMass Lowell has lost nine straight to Vermont, last winning during the 2020-21 season. The River Hawks lost by just four in March 2024.
  • In conference play Vermont is 4th in scoring (67.0) while ranking second in scoring defense (57.0). They lead the league with a 10.0 scoring differential. UMass Lowell, meanwhile, is last in scoring defense (75.0) and 8th in scoring at 54.8 ppg.
 
UMBC (3-2) at NJIT (4-2) – 6 PM
  • UMBC has won three straight conference games, after taking down previously unbeaten Bryant (55-47) and then Binghamton (64-58) last week. The Highlanders also won twice last week, taking down UMass Lowell by 11 points and then Bryant by a 78-65 margin.
  • NJIT has won four straight against the Retrievers, including an 80-75 decision on the opening day of the season. In that game, Alejandra Zuniga went off for 39 points and Jade Tillman had 25 in the Highlander comeback victory.
  • UMBC is only 7th in the league in scoring (59.0) in conference play, but ranks 3rd in scoring defense (58.0). On the flip side, NJIT leads the league in scoring (72.2), but is 8th in scoring defense at 70.0.
 
UNH (0-5) at Binghamton (4-1) – 6:07 PM
  • Binghamton went 1-1 last week, edging UAlbany 63-61 at home and then dropping a 64-58 road decision against UMBC for its first conference loss. New Hampshire fell 73-51 to Maine in its lone decision last week.
  • New Hampshire beat Binghamton 65-38 last time the teams met, though the Bearcats won the previous six. In that game last year, Eva DeChent had 23 points in victory.
  • Binghamton is up to 2nd in the league in scoring (69.4) in conference play, but ranks 5th in scoring defense (63.0) and is 4th in scoring differential (6.4). UNH is last in scoring (49.4) while ranking 6th in scoring defense (63.4)
 
Maine (4-2) at UAlbany (1-4) – 6:30 PM
  • The Great Danes have lost three straight games, including defeats to Binghamton and Vermont last week. Maine, meanwhile, went 1-1 with a loss to Vermont but a victory over UNH.
  • Maine lost three games to UAlbany last year and has dropped and six of its last seven. The Black Bears have only surpassed 60 points twice in the past seven matchups.
  • In #AEHoops action, Maine is 3rd in scoring (69.3) and 4th in scoring defense (62.0) while ranking 3rd in scoring margin (7.3). UAlbany, meanwhile, is 7th in scoring defense (63.8) and 6th in scoring (59.0).
 
Saturday, Jan. 24
  • UMBC at UMass Lowell – 1 PM
  • Bryant at Vermont – 2 PM
  • Maine at Binghamton – 2 PM
  • New Hampshire at UAlbany – 2 PM
