UMBC, Vermont Share #AEMLAX Regular-Season Title, Retrievers to Host #AEChamps

The matchups are set for the 2021 #AEMLAX Championship, which sets up to be one of the best yet! UMBC, Vermont, Stony Brook and UAlbany, which combined for 25 conference wins this spring, will all vie for the league title to cap off this unique 2021 season. The same four teams qualified for the 2019 tournament.

UMBC will host the championship for the first time since 2009 as it beat NJIT to capture a share of the regular-season title for the first time since that season. The Retrievers, who finished 7-2 in league play, earned hosting rights for the championship, which will be played May 6-8 at UMBC Stadium.

The Retrievers will be joined in the field by Vermont (7-2), the #2 seed and co-regular-season champions. The title is the Catamounts’ first in program history. #3 Stony Brook (6-3) and #4 UAlbany (5-3) round out the field. Six of the eight regular-season games played between the four teams were decided by two goals or less.

UMBC and UAlbany will square off in the first semifinal on Thursday at 1 p.m. while Vermont and Stony Brook will meet at 4 p.m. in the second semifinal.

The winners will play for the #AEMLAX title on Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
