#AEWLAX Week 6: UAlbany, UMBC, and UMass Lowell Win Conference Openers

BOSTON –League play began last weekend as six #AEWLAX teams started their journey towards the 2025 conference championship.

UAlbany, UMBC, and UMass Lowell came away with victories to get off to 1-0 starts. Binghamton poured in 12 first-half goals to defeat Manhattan, 19-4, to pick up a non-conference win on Tuesday. In the weekend conference matchups UMBC defeated Bryant, 17-9, UMass Lowell downed New Hampshire, 15-8, and UAlbany earned a one goal win over Vermont. Down 15-10 heading into the four-quarter, the Catamounts recorded three-straight goals to to come within one, but the Great Danes tacked on an insurance goal that would later on become the game-winning goal in their 16-15 victory.

Conference play continues with a three-game slate as New Hampshire plays host to UMBC, Binghamton travels to Bryant, and Vermont welcomes in UMass Lowell.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – March 17
Offensive Player of the Week
Dylana Williams, UAlbany- Sr., Midfield, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
  • Recorded seven goals and two assists in the Great Danes 16-15 victory over Vermont, including the game-winning goal.
  • Williams went three-for-free on free position shots.
  • This is William's first #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season

Defensive Player of the Week
Katana Nelson, UMBC- Sr., Midfield, Hummelstown, Pa,
  • Recorded three caused turnovers in the Retrievers 17-9 win over Bryant.
  • Picked up five ground balls in the victory.
  • This is Nelson's first #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season

Goalkeeper of the Week
Isabella Fontana, UMBC - Gr. Goalkeeper, Chevy Chase, Md.
  • Posted a .438 save percentage, turning away seven shots in 55-minutes of play in the Retrievers 17-9 win.
  • Only allowed two goals in the second-half of play in addition to picking up two ground balls.
  • This is Fontana's first #AEWLAX Goalkeeper honor of the season

Rookie of the Week
Madison Carter, UMass Lowell - fr., Defense, Baltimore, Md.
  • Was a major force on defense in the River Hawks 15-8 victory, logging two caused turnovers and chipping in with three ground balls.
  • This is Carter's second #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor of the season
