#AESB Week 3: Maine & UMBC Secure Wins

BOSTON – Maine secured their first victory of the season last week while UMBC also came away victorious at home.

The Black Bears opened their weekend with a 9-1 victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi but struggled against Lipscomb and Notre Dame. UMBC split a doubleheader against Niagara on Saturday before dropping a DH to Saint Francis on Sunday. UAlbany went 0-5 in its opening weekend of action.

All six teams are in action this Friday on the road and play a combined 28 contests. Binghamton owns the best mark in the league at 5-5 overall right now, while Bryant is 3-6. UMass Lowell and UAlbany are in search of their first victories.
 
#AESB Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 25

Player of the Week
Haley Luginbill, UMBC – So., First Base, Chesapeake, Va.
  • Hit .538 while slugging 1.154 with a .600 on-base percentage in a 1-3 week.
  • Went 3-for-3 with two runs, two home runs and four RBI in a 7-6 victory over Niagara.
  • This is Luginbill’s first career #AESB Player of the Week honor.
 
Pitcher & Rookie of the Week
Madison Simmerman, Maine – Fr., Pitcher, Linesville, Pa.
  • Went 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 11 IP, with just 12 hits allowed and two strikeouts.
  • Earned first collegiate victory with 4.0 scoreless innings, while giving up just three hits with two strikeouts against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
  • This is Simmerman’s first career #AESB honor.
