#AEWLAX Week 3: A Pair of Programs Split Awards

BOSTON –Six of the seven #AEWLAX Programs were in action last week with three of them picking up at least one victory.

On Wednesday, the three #AEWLAX teams went undefeated as UMass Lowell took down Stonehill, 20-15, Bryant outscored LIU, 11-7, and UMBC beat La Salle in a running time game, 18-3. The Retrievers added their second win of the week beating American, 13-10, thanks to six first-quarter goals. The River Hawks dropped their first game of the season, 18-6, to No. 5 Yale on Saturday.

This week defending champion Binghamton looks to get back to .500 when its plays at St. Bonaventure and then Marist this week. UMBC faces a pair of tough opponents, playing at William & Mary and then Temple. Vermont travels to Fairfield and Brown this week while UAlbany welcomes Colgate, looking for its first win of the season.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 24

Offensive Player of the Week
Katana Nelson, UMBC - Sr., Midfield, Hummelstown,Pa.
  • Scored ten goals and added three ground balls and three caused turnovers in a pair of wins.
  • Posted back-to-back five goal games including the game-winning goals against American.
  • This is Nelson's first career #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Defensive Player of the Week
Allie Reading, UMass Lowell - So., Defense, Draper, Utah
  • Was a key member of the River Hawk’s defense in their win 20-15 win over Stonehill.
  • Caused two turnovers and collected two ground balls against the Skyhawks.
  • This is Reading's first career #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week hono

Goalkeeper of the Week
Alexa Kuhn, UMass Lowell - So., Goalkeeper, Rocky Point, N.Y
  • Logged 11 saves and picked up six ground balls win the River Hawk’s win over Stonehill.
  • Made 10 saves and collected a ground ball in a 16-10 loss to No. 5 Yale. 
  • This is Kuhn's second straight #AEWLAX Goalkeeper of the Week honor and third weekly honor of her career.

Rookie of the Week
Emily Knapp, UMBC - Fr., Attack Abingdon, Md.
  • Recorded seven goals, two assists two ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 2-0 week.
  • Logged back-to-back hat tricks scoring 4 goals and an assist versus La Salle, then following up that performance with three goals and an assist against American.
  • This is Knapp's second straight #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
