Top Seeds Stay Alive in Day 2 of the #AESB Championship

ORONO, Maine - Top teams stay on top. UAlbany and Binghamton advance to the winners bracket, while Bryant lives to see another day in day 2 of the #AESB Championship. 
 
The Great Danes dominated their first game in just 5 innings and were able to get the job done and get the win over UMass Lowell. Binghamton trailed in the top of the fourth inning but at the bottom of the fourth, rallied to get 3 runs and take the win. Bryant defeated Maine in the 6th game of the day to advance to day 3 of the #AESB Championship 
 
Day 3 of the tournament opens with top-seeded UAlbany taking on second-seeded Binghamton at 11:00 a.m. for the winners bracket matchup followed by third-seeded Bryant and fifth-seeded UMass Lowell at 1:30 p.m. The Game 1 loser will take on Game 2 winner at 4 p.m. to determine who moves onto the #AESB finale.
 
2024 #AESB Championship Day 1 Recap
#1 UAlbany 10, #5 UMass Lowell 1 (5 innings)
  • The Great Danes got off to a quick start in the first inning, kicking things off with a home run to left field bringing in two more runners. 
  • Vilarchao followed up with another homer and RBI to give the Great Danes an early 4-0 lead in the 1st. 
  • UAlbany did not let up in the 2nd inning with an RBI from Petty, Murray, and Nastos bringing in a combined 4 runners and extending the lead to 8-0
  • Petrella, in the 4th  homered to left field, and plated another runner.
  • Anderson grounded out to first but was able to bring Frederick home in the bottom of the 4th to bring the Great Danes lead to 10.
  • The River Hawks saw a response from Davenport, trying to stay in the game with a RBI double to get UMass Lowell on the board, but it wouldn't be enough to get the River Hawks the win. 
 
#2 Binghamton 3, #6 Maine 2
  • All action took place in the 4th inning with Maine striking first. Cat Fallon homered to left field and brow Moery home to put the Black Bears up by 2.
  • Binghamton had a response as Lawson homered to left field, and plated Walter to tie things up.
  • Farina would ultimately have the winning hit as she doubled to left field and brought home Carvalho for the run giving the Bearcats the 3-2 lead.
 
#3 Bryant , #6 Maine
  • The Bulldogs got on the board first with a solo home run from Coleman.
  • Bryant dominated the third inning having the bases loaded for a majority of the inning. The bulldogs were able to score 4 runs from an RBI followed by 2 runs off of a wild pitches making it 7-0 in the 3rd. 
  • In the top of the 5th the Black Bears found some life with Campo who homered to center field.
  • The Black Bears were able to get more on the board in the 6th with an RBI from Kent to bring home Moery.
  • Two more RBI from Haba-Dailey and Papushka cut the Bulldogs' lead by 3 in the 7th, but it was not enough for the Black Bears in the end.
