#AESB All-Conference & Major Awards Announced; UAlbany, Binghamton, Bryant Highlighted

Boston - Regular Season Co-Champion Binghamton claimed two #AESB major awards while Bryant also secured two major #AESB awards, and UAlbany rounded out the group with the final major award. All six #AESB teams were honored in this year’s All-Conference, All-Rookie and All-Academic selections which were announced Tuesday afternoon. 
 
Binghamton’s, Allison L’Amoreaux was named Player of the Year, while Wendi Hammond from UAlbany was named Pitcher of the Year. Bryant’s Makenna Coleman was honored with the Rookie of the Year award. Binghamton’s Jess Bump and Bryant’s Bianka Bell were named #AESB Co-Coaches of the Year. 
 
The majority of award winners were determined by a vote by the league’s head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players. The All-Academic selections were chosen by a committee of athletics administrators.

2024 #AESB Major Award Winners
Player of the Year
Allison L’Amoreaux, Binghamton - Sr., Utility, Endwell, NY
 
  • L’Amoreaux started 24 games at first base, 16 games in the circle, and 3 games in left field.
  • Held a 3.14 ERA in conference play with six wins in 51.2 innings pitched and struck out 40.
  • She slashed a .305/.627/9.32 in conference play, tallying 18 hits, 14 RBI, and a conference high of 5 home runs. 
  • This is Bingahmton’s third Player of the Year honoree.
 
Pitcher of the Year
Wendi Hammond, UAlbany - Gr., Pitcher, Chemung, NY
  • Hammond won 11 games in the circle, holding opponents to a .214 batting average in conference play. 
  • She ranks second in the conference with a 1.64 ERA. 
  • In conference play, Hammond pitched 80.3 innings and struckout 63.
  • Hammond is the seventh Great Dane to be named Pitcher of the Year. 
 
Rookie of the Year
Makenna Coleman, Bryant - Fr., Outfield, Glendora, CA 
  • Coleman ranks second in on-base plus percentage (OPS) (1.195), runs (18), and RBI (16) in conference play. 
  • She also ranks third in conference play in batting average (.400) and slugging percentage (.717).
  • Earned a season-high of three Rookie of the Week honors. 
  • Coleman is the first Bulldog to earn a #AESB major award. 
 
Co-Coach of the Year
Jess Bump, Binghamton 
  • Led the Bearcats to their first regular season championship title since 2017.
  • Led team to 32-16 record overall and 14-6 mark in conference play.
  • This is Binhgamton’s third coach of the year honor all-time.
  • Bump is assisted by Michaela Transue, Kate Richard, Ed Watson, and Sophia Pappas.
Co-Coach of the Year 
Bianka Bell, Bryant
  • Bell led the Bulldogs to a 3rd place finish in the regular season after being picked sixth in the preseason poll.
  • Bryant is hitting .301 as a team this year with a 32-15 overall record.
  • This is Bryant’s first time receiving Coach of the Year honors in conference history. 
  • Bell is assisted by Aleimalee Lopez and McKenzie Richards.
In addition to the major award winners, the All-Conference teams were also named. Bryant led all teams with 12 players named to All-Conference teams, including five to First Team All-Conference and three more on the Second Team. UAlbany followed with 12 selections while Binghamton had nine honorees.

All of the award winners will be in action at the 2024 #AESB Championships starting tomorrow at Maine’s Softball Complex. No. 4 UMBC will take on No. 5 UMass Lowell in the first game starting at 11:00am, followed by No. 3 Bryant versus No. 6 Maine in the second game at 1:30pm. Both UAlbany and Bingahmton have byes for the first round and will not play until 11:00 am and 1:30pm Thursday, respectively. The games will be streamed on ESPN+.
