UAlbany & Binghamton Claim Semifinal Victories

ALBANY, N.Y. – The top seeded Great Danes held off an upset-minded UMass Lowell, while No. 2 Binghamton had a dominant second half in the #AEWLAX Semifinals to set up a rematch of last year’s championship.
 
No. 1 UAlbany led by three late in the fourth before a pair of River Hawk goals cut the deficit to one in the final minute. However, the Great Danes held on for 12-11 win. The Bearcats limited UMBC to just one goal over the final 24 minutes of the contest on the way to a 13-8 victory.
 
Binghamton will face off against UAlbany in the #AEWLAX Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m. on ESPNU. The two teams met last year with UAlbany winning the title 14-13.
 

UAlbany 12, UMass Lowell 11
  • The River Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead 31 seconds into the game and stretched their lead to 3-1 midway through the first.
  • Emma Weaver ended the run for UAlbany, but UMass Lowell led 4-2 after one period.
  • UAlbany responded with five straight goals to start the second, grabbing a 7-4 lead with 2:47 left in the period. Audra Hansen scored with just five seconds left in the half to cut it to 7-5.
  • UMass Lowell pulled within one at 7-6 in the third and then 8-7 early in the fourth.
  • UAlbany led 9-8 and got two goals in just 1:06 for a 11-8 advantage. The Great Danes then stretched it to 12-9 with only 2:53 remaining.
  • The River Hawks scored twice in the final 2:20, but UAlbany held them without a goal over the last 50 seconds to escape with the win.
  • Grace Cincebox finished with eight saves for the Great Danes while Alexa Kuhn made nine for UML.
  • Six different players scored for UAlbany, led by Ava Poupard with three goals and one assist.
 
Binghamton 13, UMBC 8
  • UMBC scored 45 seconds into the contest and stretched its lead to 3-1 at 8:25 on Grace Bruce’s second goal.
  • Binghamton answered with a pair, tying it up at three and each team scored once more for a 4-4 draw after one quarter.
  • The Retrievers took a 5-4 lead 1:22 into the second, but the Bearcats answered with the final three goals of the period for a 7-5 lead at the half.
  • Kolby Weedon went on a personal 2-1 run to begin the period, but Binghamton tallied the last two goals of the third for a 10-7 advantage.
  • The Bearcat defense locked down as the offense added two more goals to take a 12-7 lead. UMBC made it 12-8 at 12:10, but couldn’t score again, providing the 13-8 final
  • Olivia Muscolino had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists while Sofia Salgado made eight saves in net.
 
UAlbany is seeking its second consecutive America East title, while Binghamton is looking for its first in program history.
