America East Announces Finalists for Man & Woman of the Year

BOSTON – The America East has revealed its finalists for the 2023-24 Man and Woman of the Year awards. The three men and three women represent five different schools and five different sports. The Man and Woman of the Year will be unveiled on Wednesday, June 5 at the conference’s year-end awards banquet.
 
The America East began honoring a Woman of the Year in 2006 and introduced the Man of the Year award in 2014. All-Time America East Man & Woman of the Year Award Listing.
 
Woman of the Year Finalists
Aria Myers, NJIT – Basketball
  • Four-year member of basketball team, appearing in 103 career games and averaging 5.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.   
  • Graduated with a 3.73 GPA and a BS in Biomedical Engineering as part of a combined BS/MS degree program.
  • Member of SAAC at NJIT and served as a volunteer tutor for fellow students in Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry & Organic Chemistry.
 
Morgan Petty, UAlbany – Softball
  • Two-Time America East Softball Player of the Year and two-time All-Region selection & led UAlbany to 2024 #AESB Championship
  • Concluded career with a .357 average, playing in 186 games with 206 hits and 33 home runs.
  • Earned a BA in Communication with a 3.36 GPA and pursuing a MA in Communication.
  • President of SAAC at UAlbany during 2023-24 and Vice President of The Hidden Opponent from 2022-24.
 
Anne Simon, Maine – Women’s Basketball
  • Two-Time America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and led Maine to 2024 America East Championship.
  • Appeared in 130 games over five seasons with 1,982 career points, 721 rebounds and 207 assists.
  • Graduated with a 3.78 GPA and a degree in Psychology.
  • Regular participant in elementary school visits as a mentor and reading partner, as well as a member of SAAC at Maine.
 
Man of the Year Finalists
Yannick Bright, New Hampshire – Soccer
  • Three-time All-American and two-time First-Team All-American, and led UNH to two America East Championships.
  • Three-time #AEMSOC Midfielder of the Year and finished his career with eight assists and three goals.
  • Graduated with a degree in Finance with a 3.56 GPA.
  • Volunteered weekly as a referee with Northeast Passage Power Soccer – a soccer league for those who are confined to wheelchairs due various disabilities.
 
Connor Goodman, Maine – Baseball
  • 2023 First-Team All-Conference selection and three-time All-Academic honoree, and helped Maine win 2023 #AEBASE Championship.
  • Appeared in 177 games with 173 starts, posting a career .285 average with 181 hits, 91 runs and 101 RBI.
  • Graduated with a 3.89 GPA as a Business Administration major and had a 3.92 GPA while pursuing an MBA.
  • Launched’ Goody’s Gloves during the 2023-24 academic year, raising money to help purchase baseball gloves for children in local communities. Over 100 gloves were donated in the program’s first year.
 
Henry Shemet, Binghamton - Swimming
  • Finished career with eight top-three finishes in individual events at the America East Swimming & Diving Championships while helping Binghamton win two #AESD Championships.
  • In 2024 helped set new conference record in 800-yard free relay and owns the top two times in league history in the 400-yard individual medley.
  • Graduated with a 3.72 GPA as a biochemistry major.
  • Team captain and volunteer tutor in chemistry and organic chemistry. Also volunteers as a junior lifeguard instructor in the summer.
