The Weekend Preview: Oct. 10-12

BOSTON – It’s another full weekend of conference play as standings and playoff seeding are beginning to take shape with less than a month remaining in the regular season for women’s soccer, men’s soccer and field hockey.
 
Men’s Soccer
  • No. 2 Vermont, No. 3 Bryant and UAlbany are all unbeaten in league play through two contests, with the Catamounts and Bulldogs tied atop the standings at 2-0 and UAlbany at 1-0-1.
  • This afternoon at 3 pm, the Great Danes look to take down the Bulldogs on the road as they search to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. Bryant, meanwhile, has won a nation-leading ten straight games.
  • On Saturday at 6 pm Vermont welcomes a UMass Lowell team looking to score the road upset and end UVM’s nation-leading 22-match unbeaten streak.
  • Binghamton and NJIT are both looking for their first victories on conference play when the Bearcats host NJIT at 1 pm.
  • UMBC looks to snap its five-game losing streak when the Retrievers welcome New Hampshire, but face a tough task as they’ve lost eight straight to the Wildcats who are 1-1 in league play.
 
Women’s Soccer
  • Just two points separate teams 3-9 in the standings through four conference games. Five of the six teams have a single win, while NJIT had zero wins but three ties for three points.
  • Binghamton is in first and looks to separate itself atop the standings on the road against a UMass Lowell squad that has allowed just two goals in three conference games.
  • Vermont is in second (2-0-1) and has given up just one conference goal, as the Catamounts travel to face off against Maine at 12 p.m.
  • UMBC has three points and welcomes Bryant, which has five points and is coming off a 3-0 win over UAlbany.
  • The Great Danes host New Hampshire, with both teams looking for a second conference victory and to move into playoff positioning at the midpoint of the season.
 
Field Hockey
  • After taking down the preseason No. 1 last week, defending champion Vermont looks to make it a 2-0 start in league play when the Catamounts play at 1-0 UMass Lowell.
  • UAlbany seeks to stay unbeaten in league play when the Great Danes travel to face Bryant today at 3 pm. They’ve won eight straight conference regular season games dating back to last season.
  • Maine and New Hampshire are both 0-1 in league play and seek to get back on track Friday. The Black Bears have dropped five straight games, while UNH is 5-5 overall and has scored at least two goals in seven straight games.  
 
Volleyball
  • Four teams are tied atop the standings with matching 2-1 records and each team has one match this weekend.
  • UAlbany is looking to build on its midweek victory with a home match against NJIT, who is 0-3, tonight.
  • Bryant is 2-1 in league play but coming off a 3-2 loss to UMBC and hosts Binghamton (2-1) on Sunday. The Bearcats, meanwhile, have won two straight including a 3-1 win over the Retrievers.
  • New Hampshire hosts UMBC in the final match of the weekend looking to stay in first, but the Retrievers have won 4 of 5 contests, including victories against Bryant and Howard over the last week.
 
Cross Country
  • Seven teams are in action this weekend, including six today. UAlbany, Bryant, Maine, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont are all competing at the New England Championships at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds, which is the site of this year’s conference championship.
  • NJIT will compete in the Mets Championship and host its XC Invitational on Saturday morning.
  • In the latest USTFCCA Men’s Regional rankings, UMass Lowell moved down to No. 9, while Maine stayed steady at No. 15. UMBC jumped to 12th in the Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings following a strong showing.
