Softball 5/10/2024 7:52:20 PM Top Dogs versus Underdogs as the #AESB Championship Game is Set ORONO, Maine - The UAlbany Great Danes advance to the championship game from the winners’ bracket after two dominating wins in the #AESB Championship. Joining them is the UMass Lowell River Hawks after they battled back to beat No. 2 Binghamton for their spot in the #AESB Championship game. This is the Great Danes 3rd straight season being in the championship matchup, and first coming out of the winner’s bracket in the past 3 seasons. Underdogs UMass Lowell took down No. 3 Bryant to earn them a spot in Game 9 against No. 2 Binghamton for Game 9 of the #AESB Championship. First pitch of tomorrow’s championship game will be at 12 p.m.The #AESB finale is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. tomorrow with UAlbany looking to win their 8th title, while the River Hawks look for their first ever #AESB Championship. 2024 #AESB Championship Day 3 Recap #1 UAlbany 6, #2 Binghamton 3 Binghamton was quick to score with an RBI from Lawson bringing home Walter in the 1st inning. In the second, UAlbany responded with an RBI that plated Mitros and Grahek to put the Great Danes in the lead 2-1. The 3rd inning opened the gates for the Great Danes as Grahek and Conn had an RBI bringing in 3 runners to make it 5-1. The Great Danes ended the 3rd with the score at 6-1 after Conn stole home after Mitros stole second. The Bearcats tried to claw their way back in the 4th inning with a double from Guerrero to get Roberts across the plate. Binghamton’s Carvalho then flied out allowing Walter to score making it 6-3 at the top of the 4th inning. #5 UMass Lowell 2, #3 Bryant 1 UMass Lowell was able to strike first after a 2 inning drought. Lea White flied out to bring Emily Tow home and put the River Hawks on the board with a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning. A bunt from White allowed Howes to score making it 2-0 for the River Hawks in the 7th. Bryant’s Cochran hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 7th to cut the lead 2-1. Ryley White led the River Hawks in their victory with 9 strikeouts holding the Bulldogs to only 1 run in a complete game effort. #5 UMass Lowell 2, #2 Binghamton 1 The Bearcats struck first with a walk for Lawson with the bases loaded which brought in Santos to score one run and put Binghamton in the lead in the first. The River Hawks responded in the 3rd when Fisher singled up the middle to bring in White. The teams were deadlocked at a tie for 5 innings until Frederick doubled to right field and brought home White to score in the top of the 9th inning. Ryley White locked down Binghamton defensively, throwing a complete game with 7 strikeouts and holding a 0.78 ERA on the game.
