Conference Play Begins; UMBC Goes Undefeated in Week 7 of #AESB

Boston, MA - Conference play opened up this weekend with Binghamton traveling to Bryant and UMBC hosting Maine for a 3-game series. Bryant went 2-3 in the first conference series of the season. UMBC went 3-0 in conference play against Maine, continuing their success going 6-0 on the whole week for the second week in a row. UMass Lowell also took one from UMass 7-0.
 
Here are the week 7 #AESB Award Winners: 
 
Player of the Week 
Emily Riggs, UMBC - So., Second Base, Lancaster, PA
  • Slashed .588/1.235/1.917 with 3 HR, 13 RBI, 2 doubles, and 6 runs scored. Went 10-17 at the plate with only 1 strikeout.
  • Also was perfect in the field with 8 putouts. Had the game-winning walk off homer in the 9th on Sunday against Maine
 
Pitcher of the Week
Kya Matter, UMBC - Jr., Pitcher, Dalmatia, PA
  • Went 4-0 on the week with 31 strikeouts, 5 walks, 12 hits and just 3 earned runs in 23 innings pitched over 4 appearances, with 3 starts.
  • Went 2-0 against Maine, striking out 21. In the series finale she struck out 14, walked 2, allowed 1 earned run in 9 innings of work.
 
Rookie of the Week
Ella Squaires, UMBC - Fr., Outfield, Monmouth Junction, NJ
  • Batted .588 (10-17) with 2 RBI, 10 runs scored, 8 walks in six games batting leadoff. 
  • Had a .720 OBP and went 6-6 on stolen base attempts.
