#AEWLAX Week 6: Vermont, Bryant & UAlbany Win Start 1-0 in #AEWLAX

BOSTON – Vermont, Bryant and UAlbany all opened conference play 1-0, while UMass Lowell nearly took down #23 Brown in a strong weekend of #AEWLAX action.
 
In a rematch of last year’s title contest, UAlbany edged Binghamton 15-13 by outscoring the Bearcats 9-7 in the second half. Vermont shut out UNH in the second quarter 5-0 on the way to a 17-11 victory. Bryant and UMBC were tied 9-9 entering the fourth, before the Bulldogs held a 6-1 scoring edge in the final period for the 15-10 win.
 
This week UAlbany starts the week by traveling to face #7 Syracuse and then travels to face Vermont in a matchup of the last two conference champions on Saturday. New Hampshire and UMBC square off on Friday at 12 p.m. while UMass Lowell begins conference play at Binghamton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on January 17.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – March 18
Offensive Player of the Week
Ava Vasile, Vermont – Gr., Attack, Milford, Mass.
  • Totaled eight points on a career-high seven goals and took just eight shots in a 17-11 win over New Hampshire.
  • Added one assist, one ground ball and one draw control.
  • This is Vasile’s second #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Centofante, Bryant – Sr., Goalkeeper, Valley Forge, PA
  • Recorded ten saves and gave up ten goals in a 15-10 victory over UMBC.
  • Gave up just three goals in the second half while making six saves.
  • This is Centofante’s third career #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Chloe Bowers , UMass Lowell – Fr., Attack, Whitefish Bay, Wis.
  • Scored four goals on ten shots with two ground balls and one draw in a 15-14 loss to #23 Brown.
  • This is Bowers’ fourth #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
