BOSTON – The 2024 America East Swimming & Diving Championship begins on Wednesday, with teams traveling south to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to compete in the four-day event.
VMI is an associate conference member in the sport and this year’s championship will mark the first time since 2013 that the #AEASD Championship will be held on a member campus with fans allowed to be in attendance.

New Hampshire has won a conference-record 11 #AESD Titles after capturing their fourth straight in 2023, posting 833 points to beat second place Bryant by over 150 points. The Bulldogs were second with 664 points, while Vermont (563.5) and UMBC (503.5) rounded out the top four.
On the men’s side, UMBC claimed its second straight title with 855.5 points, edging out Binghamton by just 63 points. The Bearcats will seek to secure their third conference title, while Bryant was third with 615 points and NJIT took fourth with 434.
Women’s Swimmers to Watch:
Ella Guilfoil, UNH: This year she leads the conference in the 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. Her 400 IM of 4:15.33 is the fastest in the conference by over 15 seconds. Last season she had three top-four finishes in those events as she looks for her first individual gold.
Jackie House, Vermont: House returns after a dominant performance last year which led to Most Outstanding Swimmer honors as won the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free. This year she has the top time in the 500 free and the third best in both the 100 and 200 free.
Halley Laney, Vermont: The 2023 champion in both the 100 fly and 200 fly, Laney currently owns the best times in both events this year. She also has the second-best time in the 200 IM this season.
Reagan Lord, Bryant: Last year’s conference champion in the 100 back has the top time in the event this year and the second fastest time in the 200 back and third fastest in the 200 IM. She reached the A Final in both events a season ago.
Audrey Mahoney, UNH: Mahoney currently leads the conference in the 50 and 100 free. She is the 2023 champion in the 50 free and silver medalist in the 100 free.
Courtney Moane, Binghamton: The silver medalist in the 100 breast last year, Moane owns the best time in the event this year. She has the second best time in the 200 breast this year as well, trailing her teammate Lauren Kuzma.
Men’s Swimmers to Watch:
Oliver Gassmann, UMBC: Last year he earned Most Outstanding Swimmer honors with six gold medals, including individual golds in 50 free, 100 fly and 200 fly. He also set conference records in both fly events. This season he has the best butterfly times and is third in the 50 free.
Leo Luna, Bryant: Luna is the defending champion in the 1650 free and has the top time in the event again this year. He also placed third overall in the 500 in 2023 and owns the fifth best time in 2024.
Dani Nicusan, UMBC: Won the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast, with conference-record times in both breaststroke events. Also won three golds in relays. This year the senior looks to make it four straight titles in the 200 breast, as well as repeat in the 100 breast and 200 IM.
Liam Preston, Binghamton: The 2023 Most Outstanding Rookie had three top-three finishes last year and has been better this season. He has the top time in the 200 free, the second best time in the 500 free and the fifth-best time in the 1650.
Francois Malherbe, NJIT: The freshman from South Africa is looking to make waves in his first championship. He currently has the second-best conference time in the 50 free and the 100 free. His 100 fly time is also the No. 2 mark in the America East.
Henry Shemet, Binghamton: Shemet claimed a gold in the 400 IM last year, with second place finishes in the 200 breast and 200 IM. This year he has the best times in both the 200 IM and then 400 IM.
