#AEWLAX Week 3: UMass Lowell & Vermont Stay Perfect

BOSTON – UMass Lowell had a pair of wins to improve to 5-0, while Vermont moved to 4-0 with a victory in its lone contest last week. Binghamton also earned a win over in-state rival Colgate.
 
The River Hawks continued their impressive start to the year with a 13-9 home victory over Stonehill on Wednesday and then followed it up with an 11-9 comeback victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday. Vermont also stayed unbeaten with a 15-9 home win against LIU.
 
UAlbany dropped a pair of contests last week, falling 14-10 to No. 23 Brown and 21-12 to No. 3 James Madison. The Great Danes are 0-5 but have played four ranked teams, with a fifth currently receiving votes nationally. UAlbany is also receiving votes in the latest IWLCA National Poll.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on January 17.

#AEWLAX Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 26
Offensive Player of the Week
Ava Vasile, Vermont – Gr., Attack, Milford, Mass.
  • Recorded six goals and one assist in a 15-9 win over LIU.
  • Also added three caused turnovers, three draws and two ground balls in the win.
  • This is Vasile’s fourth career #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Alexa Kuhn, UMass Lowell – Fr., Goalkeeper, Rocky Point, N.Y.
  • Earned a pair of victories in net, posting a .561 save percentage and 9.00 GAA.
  • In first career start, made seven saves and collected six ground balls while allowing only nine goals against Stonehill
  • Totaled a career-high 16 saves and only allowed nine goals for a .640 save percentage against Quinnipiac.
  • This is Kuhn’s first career #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Chloe Bowers, UMass Lowell – Fr., Attack, Whitefish Bay, Wisc.
  • Had ten points (8g, 2a), three draws and three ground balls in a pair of wins.
  • Scored three times with three draws in a 13-9 win over Stonehill
  • Had a career-high seven points, including the game-winner, in an 11-9 comeback victory against Quinnipiac.
  • This is Bower’s second #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
