BOSTON – Vermont opened the season 2-0 down South, while New Hampshire, UMass Lowell and UMBC all earned victories on the first weekend of the year.
The Catamounts overcame a sluggish first quarter to take down Coastal Carolina 10-9 on Friday and dispatched Gardner-Webb 20-6 on Sunday. New Hampshire posted an impressive 19-8 win over Marist on Friday, while #21 UAlbany came up short, 14-10, to #14 Johns Hopkins at home.
UMBC started its season strong with a 20-2 victory over Delaware State, while UMass Lowell concluded the week’s wins with a 15-7 decision against reigning NEC Champion Sacred Heart on Sunday.
The preseason poll was announced on January 17.

Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Pascale, UAlbany – Sr., Midfielder, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
- Totaled seven points, six draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover in a tough 14-10 loss to #14 Johns Hopkins.
- Finished with three goals and four assists with eight shots, all of which were on goal.
- This is Pascale’s fourth career #AEWLAX Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Maria Hagan, New Hampshire – Jr., Goalkeeper, Downers Grove, Ill.
- Stopped 9 of 17 shots to earn a win with a .529 save percentage in a win over Marist.
- Made five saves, including two on free positions, in the first quarter to provide UNH with an early lead.
- This is Hagan’s first career #AEWLAX Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Chloe Bowers, UMass Lowell – Fr., Attack, Whitefish Bay, Wisc.
- Scored five times with one assist for six points in a win over defending NEC champion Sacred Heart.
- Added one caused turnover and one draw control in the victory.
- This is Bower’s first career #AEWLAX Rookie of the Week honor.
