UAlbany & New Hampshire Punch Tickets to #AEVB Championship Match

VESTAL, N.Y. – UAlbany didn’t look like the No. 4 seed on Friday night in the #AEVB Semifinals as they dispatched top seed and host Binghamton in four sets, while No. 2 New Hampshire took case of business, 3-1, in the other semifinal on Friday evening on the campus of Binghamton University.

In the opener, UAlbany dropped the first set 25-22 but came back to capture three straight 25-12, 25-21 and 25-23 to secure their first trip to the #AEVB Championship match since 2021. New Hampshire won the first set 25-17 and dropped the second set 25-22 before claiming the final two 25-23 and 25-21.
 
The Great Danes and Wildcats face off Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+ with a spot in the NCAA Tournament on the line. UAlbany seeks its first title since 2019 while UNH looks for its first since 2016.
 
Semifinal Recap
No. 4 UAlbany 3, No. 1 Binghamton 1
  • The Great Danes scored the first seven points of the match led 16-11 midway through the set. However, Binghamton went on a 5-1 run to make it 17-16. They fell behind 21-18, before taking seven of the final eight points for a 25-22 win.
  • It was all UAlbany in the second set. The Great Danes jumped out to a 10-3 lead and didn’t look back. The Bearcats were still in it at 16-9, but were outscored 9-3 the rest of the way to lose 25-12.
  • Binghamton scored the first four points of the third set and led 7-3. UAlbany responded with six straight points to take back the lead at 9-7. The teams went back-and-forth, and the Great Danes led just 21-20. However, they finished on a 4-1 run for a 25-21 victory.
  • The Bearcats started quick in the fourth, leading 10-3 and 14-8. UAlbany mounted a serious comeback, going on a 7-1 run to tie it 15-15. Each team went on runs and ended up tied 23 apiece. However, UAlbany captured the final two points to secure the victory 25-23 win.
 
No. 2 New Hampshire 3, No. 3 UMBC 1
  • The Wildcats grabbed a 7-2 lead in the opening set, but UMBC tied it up at eight apiece. A 6-1 run gave UNH a 14-9 lead and the Wildcats extended it to 19-11. The Retrievers managed to close the gap to 24-17. Avery LePore ended the set with a kill for the UNH win.
  • UMBC went 9-4 in the second. UNH was eventually able to tie it up 13-13. The teams went back-and-forth before four straight gave the Retrievers a 20-17 lead, and they held on for the 25-22 victory.
  • The third set was tight though UMBC grabbed a slight lead at 12-9. UNH countered to capture a 21-18 advantage, but the score evened up at 23 apiece.  The Wildcats took the final two points and the set, 25-23.
  • In the final set neither team could gain a lead greater than four. UNH took the lead midway through and Hannah Serbousek eventually made it 20-16 on a kill. UMBC pulled within 23-21, but the Wildcats recorded the final two points.
