BOSTON – Following one of the best regular seasons in recent memory, UAlbany women’s lacrosse will begin the 2024 campaign ranked 21st in the nation in the preseason ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll, released on Monday.
The Great Danes finished the 2023 season ranked #18 in the final media poll after winning their first America East title since 2012, and making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2017. The team upset #12 Virginia, 16-14, in the first round after trailing 10-3 in the contest. They fell to Denver in the second round, who eventually advanced to the Final Four. The ranking to end the seasons was the Great Danes' first since landing 24th in the 2018 preseason poll.
UAlbany returns five of its top seven scorers from a season ago, including 2023 Inside Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention Katie Pascale. Pascale was named the #AEWLAX Midfielder of the Year after leading the league in points (92) and assists (43). Starting goalkeeper Grace Cincebox also returns for her sophomore season.
Four of UAlbany's 2024 opponents are ranked in the top six, including defending national champion Northwestern at No. 1 and runner-up Boston College at No. 2.
The Great Danes open the season on February 9 at John Fallon Field against preseason #14 Johns Hopkins.
Fans will once again be able to watch nearly every #AEWLAX contest this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.
