Weekend Preview: Sept. 28 – Oct. 1

BOSTON - #AEVB action gets underway this weekend, while conference play is in full swing for #AEFH, #AEMSOC and #AEWSOC. All nine cross country programs also compete on Saturday as well.

Friday
Binghamton at NJIT – 6 p.m.
UMBC at Bryant – 7 p.m.

New Hampshire at UMBC – 1 p.m.
UAlbany at NJIT – 2 p.m.
 
The #AEVB season begins on Friday as Binghamton travels to face NJIT for a 6 p.m. match. The Bearcats won their first regular season title last year but have dropped five straight this year for a 6-8 record overall. The Highlanders are also 6-8 and are coming off a 3-0 win against Manhattan.
 
Reigning champion UMBC travels to Bryant at 7 p.m. and then hosts UNH on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Retrievers are 6-5, with the hardest non-conference schedule in the league, while Bryant is 10-7 and has won three of its past four matches. The Wildcats are a league-best 9-5 and on a two match win streak. In the final match of the weekend NJIT hosts UAlbany. The Great Danes are 5-9, but have won two straight.

All eight #AEMSOC teams play this weekend, highlighted by the finale of Bryant at UMBC on Saturday night. The Bulldogs are 8-1 this season, rank second nationally in GAA (0.111) and third in goal differential at +19, however, are 0-1 in conference play. UMBC, meanwhile, is 5-2-1 overall following its 2-1 victory over UAlbany last weekend. A victory for Bryant could vault them in the national rankings, while a UMBC win could put them at the top of the conference standings.
 
#24 New Hampshire (5-1-2) hosts the Great Danes (4-5) on Friday night looking for its first conference win of the year, though the Wildcats are unbeaten in their last four. #14 UVM (6-1-2) welcomes UMass Lowell (2-3-2) while NJIT looks for its first 2-0 start in conference play since joining the America East in 2020 when its travels to Binghamton (2-6-1).

Friday is a full day of conference action for #AEFH, highlighted by #19 UAlbany (6-3) hosting Maine (4-5) as the Great Danes seek a 3-0 start in conference play. UNH is already 3-0 in #AEFH action as the team hosts Bryant on (5-4), seeing to surpass its conference win total from 2022.
 
#18 UMass Lowell has won four straight matches and is 1-0 in league play. The River Hawks welcome a UVM team which is 1-1 after coming back to beat California in OT on Sunday. California (3-5) and Stanford (2-7) battle on Friday night with each team seeking its first conference win of the year. Six teams face off in non-conference action on Sunday.

Maine is one of ten teams nationwide which have yet to lose this year and on Sunday look to improve on their 2-0 conference record when they host UMBC (3-8-1). The Black Bears have only allowed eight goals in ten games, while UMBC has scored 11 times in 12 games this year. Binghamton (3-4-3) puts its 2-0 conference record on the line with a pair of matches this weekend. The Bearcats hosts UAlbany (3-5-1) on Friday and then travel to Bryant on Sunday (4-3-2). The both the Great Danes and Bulldogs are 0-1-1 this year, looking for their first conference win.
 
Vermont (6-3) is home twice this weekend, welcoming Bryant on Thursday and then UMass Lowell (1-3-4) on Sunday. The Catamounts are 0-1 in conference play and look to get back to the playoffs after missing out in 2022. NJIT (3-3-5) travels to UMBC on Friday as both have 0-1-1 conference marks and seek that statement conference victory.

Cross Country
All nine programs will be competing at the Paul Short Invitational this weekend, with just four weeks until the conference championship. Results for the meet can be found on leonetiming.com/results. It’s the only time before this year’s championship when all nine programs will race on the same course.
