UMBC Takes Top Seed in #AESB Bracket

BOSTON - Let the games begin! After a competitive regular season, the bracket for the 2023 America East Softball Championship is set. UMBC earned the regular-season crown for the third-straight year and will be the top seed for the tournament. The remaining seeds and matchups for the #AESB championship were determined this weekend.
 
The four-day, double-elimination tournament will feature all six #AESB teams and will be played May 10-13 on The Diamond at UMBC. It is the second time in three seasons that the Retrievers have hosted the championship
 
UMBC and Binghamon, the No. 2 seed, will enjoy first-round byes. The Retrievers went 15-4 inleague play to become the first America East team to win three consecutive regular-season titles since Boston University accomplished the feat from 2010-12. The Bearcats have their most wins since 2016 and best America East finish since 2017. 
 
The remaining seeds are: No. 3 UAlbany, No. 4 UMass Lowell, No. 5 Bryant, No. 6 Maine 
 
The tournament begins on Wednesday with No. 4 UMass Lowell facing No. 5 Bryant at 11 a.m. and No. 3 UAlbany taking on No. 6 Maine at 1:30 p.m. The two losing teams will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. The top seeds, No. 1 UMBC and No. 2 Binghamton, will be in action on Thursday, along with another elimination game. Three more games will be played Friday while the championship games will be played on Saturday. The league champion will receive an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Softball Championship.
