Four Different Programs Claim #AEWLAX Awards as All-Conference Honors are Announced

BOSTON – Four different #AEWLAX programs secured a major conference award and all seven teams had at least one all-conference honoree as the 2023 America East Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference awards were announced on Thursday morning.
 
UAlbany had a league-best four First-Team All-Conference selections, and the Great Danes were one of four programs with multiple players on the first team. Binghamton and Vermont each had three, while Vermont had a pair. The Catamounts did lead all schools with three major award winners, followed by Binghamton with two.
 
UMBC’s Claire Bockstie and Vermont’s Ava Vasile were selected as Co-Attackers of the Year, while UVM’s Carolyn Carrera and Jane Trauger secured Defender and Rookie of the Year honors. Emily Manning of Binghamton was named Goalkeeper of the Year, while her coach Stephanie Allen was honored as Coach of the Year. UAlbany’s Katie Pascale was selected as Midfielder of the Year.
 
The major awards, All-Conference and All-Rookie teams were determined in a vote by the league's head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players. The All-Academic team was voted on by a committee of administrators from the conference’s member institutions.

2023 #AEWLAX Major Award Winners
Co-Attacker of the Year
Claire Bockstie, Sr., UMBC
  • Finished the season with 47 goals, 21 assists and 10 ground balls.
  • Led the league in points per game (4.86) and ranked third in goals per game (3.36).
  • First UMBC player to earn Attacker of the Year honors.
 
Co-Attacker of the Year
Ava Vasile, Sr., Vermont
  • Concluded the regular season with 43 goals, eight assists, 68 draw controls, 27 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls.
  • In conference play, led the league in points per game (5.17) and goals per game (4.5), as well as third in caused turnovers per game (2.67) and fourth in draw controls per game (5.67).
  • Second UVM player to earn Attacker of the Year recognition and first since 2014.
 
Midfielder of the Year
Katie Pascale, Jr., UAlbany
  • Posted 38 goals, 31 assists, 108 draws, 21 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
  • Ranked second in the league in points per game (4.31) and draw controls per game (6.75), while also being the only player in the America East with over 30 goals and 30 assists.
  • Second UAlbany player to be receive the honor, joining Sarah Martin in 2017.
 
Defender of the Year
Carolyn Carrera, Gr., Vermont
  • Leads the nation in caused turnovers per game at 3.73 and is second in the America East with 2.8 ground balls per game.
  • Set a new America East single-season record with 56 caused turnovers.
  • First UVM player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors.
 
Goalkeeper of the Year
Emily Manning, Sr., Binghamton
  • Went 10-5 during the regular season with a 10.81 GAA, 120 saves and a .425 save percentage.
  • Posted 10 saves and five goals allowed in a win over ACC foe Pitt.
  • First Binghamton player to earn an #AEWLAX major award.
 
Rookie of the Year
Jane Trauger, Fr., Vermont
  • Led all conference freshman in goals with 32, to go with ten assists for 42 total points.
  • Scored 3+ goals in seven different games, including a season-high five against Harvard.
  • Fourth UVM player to be named Rookie of the Year and the first since 2011.
 
Coach of the Year
Stephanie Allen, Binghamton
  • Led Binghamton to 10-5 overall record and 5-1 mark in conference play, the best record in program history.
  • Helped the Bearcats rank first in conference play in points per game (21.2), as well as second in both scoring offense (14.6) and scoring defense (10.2).
  • Allen is assisted by Kali Hartshorn and Sophie Leva. 
 
Binghamton led all programs with eight all-conference honorees, including five on the second-team, while UAlbany was second with six total all-conference performers.

The All-Rookie Team was headlined by a trio of UAlbany performers, while UMass Lowell and Bryant each had a pair earn recognition.

Ten All-Academic honorees excelled in the classroom and on the turf to combine for an impressive 3.88 GPA.

The Great Danes will host the championship for the second straight year and open play on Friday at 1 p.m. against No. 4 New Hampshire. No. 2 Binghamton and No. 3 Vermont square off at 4 p.m. in the other semifinal.
 
The semifinal winners will go head-to-head for the 2023 Championship on Sunday, May 7 at 10 a.m.
